Arsenal transfer news: Midfielder set to join AS Roma on loan

Arsenal midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan is set to complete his loan move to Italian side AS Roma before the closure of European transfer window.

According to the agreement which the Gunners have reportedly reached with the Italian outfit, AS Roma will pay the full wages of the 30-year-old throughout the duration of the loan period.

Furthermore, while Roma will also have to pay a small loan fee, there's nothing in the contract that binds them to sign Mkhitaryan on a permanent basis once the loan period ends.

After the moves of fellow midfielder Alexis Sanchez and Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku, Mkhitaryan is the 3rd high-profile name to leave England for Italy in the summer transfer window.Mkhitaryan joined Arsenal in January 2018 in a move which saw Alexis Sanchez moving to the Old Trafford, and admitted later on that things didn't work out for him at the Old Trafford.

While the Armenian enjoyed much game time in his first full season at the Emirates, the arrival of new players combined with the decision of manager Unai Emery to give more game time to young players was likely to reduce him to the Arsenal bench this season.

Consequently, now that he has left for at least one season, the Arsenal manager would be hoping to fill the space left vacant by his departure by bringing in more young players from the club's youth ranks.

During his brief 1 1/2 year stay at the club, Mkhitaryan made 59 appearances for the Gunners, scoring nine goals in the process. In other major Arsenal transfer news, BBC reports that the Gunners expect to see one more player leaving the club before Monday's transfer deadline.

The Premier League club are hopeful that defender Shkodran Mustafi, who has attracted plenty of interest from big Italian clubs over the past few weeks, will be out of the door before the transfer window slams shut on Monday.

However, unlike Mkhitaryan who had his heart set on a move, Mustafi isn't particularly keen on the idea of leaving the Emirates Stadium, with Arsenal not having any concrete offer on the table for the German defender.

That means that as things stand, it seems pretty unlikely for the Gunners to force out Mustafi in the ongoing summer transfer window. [/ vc_column_text] [/ vc_column] [/ vc_row] [/ vc_column] [/ vc_row] [/ vc_section]
