Arsenal Vs Manchester United: Preview, team news, probable starting lineups and prediction

Arsenal Vs Manchester United Preview: Know more about the team news, potential starting lineups and prediction ahead of this New Year’s Day fixture.

Arsenal at Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be hoping his Manchester United side could extend their winning run to three games in a row as they travel to face an underwhelming Arsenal side on Wednesday.

The Red devils have won three of their last four games in all competitions coming into this game, with two successive Premier League victories over Newcastle United and Burnley lifting them to within five points of Champions League places.

In stark contrast to his counterpart, Mikel Arteta will be hoping that his side put their recent defeat against Chelsea behind them to try and register their first victory of his tenure.

The former Manchester City assistant boss was within seven minutes of clinching his first victory as the Gunners’ manager before an error from goalkeeper Bernd Leno gave Chelsea a way back in the game and secure all three points. The home side are expected to be without central defender Calum Chambers who limped off during their 1-2 defeat against Chelsea at the weekend.

His absence would force Arteta to include Shkodran Mustafi in his starting XI after the German defender’s cameo against the Blues a few days earlier. Fellow defenders Sokratis and Hector Bellerin are both doubtful for this game and are expected to play no part on Wednesday.

One player who could be back for Arsenal is wantaway midfielder Granit Xhaka. The Swiss is linked with a move to Bundesliga outfit Hertha Berlin but that hasn’t stopped his manager from repeatedly mentioning him as a part of his long-term plans at the club.

Paul Pogba is yet another player whose long-term future in the Premier League is the subject of transfer speculations. The French World Cup winner is expected to return to action against Arsenal after missing out on his team’s 2-0 victory over Burnley at the weekend.

Full-backs Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw will also return to United’s starting XI after they were both rested at the weekend, with Scott McTominay and Eric Bailly remaining the only major injury doubts for Solskjaer’s side.Given the form both these sides have displayed in the last few weeks, Man United are the clear favorites to get all three points from this fixture.

With Marcus Rashford in the form of his life and Man United winning two of their last three away trips to the Emirates, Solskjaer’s men have the wind on their back heading into New Year’s Day clash.

That said, despite suffering a defeat at the weekend, Arsenal showed plenty of promising signs and will be ready to pounce if United are unable to sort out issues at the back.
