Mikel Arteta’s side are coming into this game on the back of their morale-puncturing defeat at the hands of Wolverhampton Wanderers on Tuesday.

  • Aston Villa will lock horns vs fellow top-four aspirants Arsenal in Saturday’s early kickoff at the Villa Park in the Premier League
  • Dean Smith’s side are also contesting for European places this season and are only eight points off 4th Liverpool with two games in hand
  • Victory at the weekend might take the Villans up to 7th in the Premier League table provided results elsewhere go their way

Aston Villa will be hoping to build-on their recent excellent league form when they host Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal at the Villa Park for Saturday’s early kickoff.

Dean Smith’s side might have escaped relegation by the barest of margins last season but have seen their fortunes transformed in the current campaign. Spurred on by excellent forms of Jack Grealish and Ross Barkley, they are as things stand genuine contenders for the top four.

Similar is the case with Arsenal. The Gunners might have started the ongoing campaign in woeful fashion but have managed to turn the ship around by putting in multiple excellent performances over the past few weeks, barring a calamitous performance against Wolves last midweek.

The home side are expected to be without both Kourtney House and Wesley on Saturday, but overall they have a relatively loss populated injury and suspensions list than their guests.

Smith chose to bench Bertrand Traore for his side’s midweek victory over West Ham, and the former Lyon winger is expected to start out wide here on Saturday.

Mikel Arteta’s side have no choice but to see off this clash without the suspended duo of David Luiz and Bernd Leno after the two picked up red cards at Wolves on Wednesday.

Runar Alex Runarsson might replace Leno in the side as January signing Mat Ryan is still recovering from a hip issue, with summer arrival Gabriel Magalhaes expected to replace Luis in the Arsenal XI. Left-back Kieran Tierney will miss the game due to injury.

Possible Aston Villa starting lineup Vs Arsenal: Martinez; Cash, Konsa, Mings, Targett; Luiz, McGinn; Traore, Sanson, Grealish; Watkins
