Alisson Becker is out for few weeks due to a calf injury suffered during opening Premier League match against Norwich. Jurgen Klopp updated on the injury of Brazilian goalie who was substituted during the 4-1 win over Norwich

Alisson was determined to keep his splendid form in the goal but a calf injury forced him out after just 39 minutes. The Brazilian international was then substituted with the summer signing Adrian.

Liverpool fans showed serious concern when the 26-year-old was taken out during the season-opener.

While giving an update on Alisson, Klopp said that the injury does not look too cool and it will keep him out for a few weeks. Alisson injury has forced Liverpool to sign Andy Lonergan on a short term deal as a replacement.

As soon as the Brazilian signed for the reds, he became an integral part of the squad as he helped club winning UEFA Champions League and going toe to toe with Manchester City for the Premier League title.

Liverpool boss further added that he does not want to make a forecast on his return and it will surely take a few weeks to heal the calf, maybe six weeks but he expects him to come back sooner as he did not see him injured a lot.

Lonergan – a possible replacement – has left Middlesbrough and the 35-year-old is available as a free transfer. Lonergan was initially signed by Liverpool during pre-season as an only replacement of Simon Mignolet.

Whereas Alisson was on holiday during pre-season and Caoimhin Kelleher – the third choice goalkeeper – was not available due to a wrist injury. Next up for the reds is Chelsea in Super Cup and Lonergan is expected to be on the bench in Istanbul with Adrian starting.

Klopp also said that due to injuries he was more concerned about goalkeepers a few weeks back but now Kelleher is in the final phase of recovery and expected to be back soon. The German is almost sure that Andy Lonergan will be the short term solution as he is looking to solve the goalkeeper dilemma.

It looks that Liverpool boss has his trust in Lonergan as he said that he was much impressed with his attitude on the pitch. Klopp further stated that Lonergan has already helped the team during pre-season and now he is ready to work more with them.

Kamil Grabara is another choice for the reds but the 20-year-old is currently on loan to Huddersfield  Town in Championship. Alisson who joined Liverpool squad late after winning Copa America with Brazil was in severe pain when he was taken out on Friday night.

However, presence of Virgil van Dijk at the back is a big big positive for Liverpool as the Netherland international continued his brilliant form in the season-opener against Norwich in which he scored with a fine header and looked solid at the back as well.

If Liverpool is to defend UEFA Champions League title and also keep pace with Man City, they will definitely need Alisson back as soon as possible. Klopp and everyone at Anfield will be eager to see the Brazilian on the pitch as Liverpool bids for the first major silverware of the season when they face Chelsea in UEFA Super Cup.
