Juventus and Holland center-back Matthijs de Ligt claimed the award in 2018, following in the footsteps of Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi.

Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi is among four Premier League players whose names are on the 20-man shortlist of the 2019 Golden Boy award.

The highly sought-after award is given out by Italian newspaper Tuttosport to the best under-21 player currently playing in top leagues of European football.

An initial long list was unveiled to the press earlier this year and had now been watered down to a final 20 players, with three England stars making the cut.

Battling the likes of Guendouzi for the honor are the likes of Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho, Chelsea forward Mason Mount and Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden.

The inclusion of Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi is a welcome surprise for the Gunners fans as he only joined the club last summer from Ligue 1 side Lorient.

Phil Foden, meanwhile, hugely impressed for Manchester City last season with a string of performances giving those watching a glimpse of his huge potential.

New Everton signing Moise Kean, who joined the Blues for 27m from Juventus in the summer, is another Premier League star on the list.

The 19-year-old Italian impressed for Juventus last term but has been unable to find the back of the net since his move to the Merseyside in August.

Mason Mount, the final Premier League name on the shortlist, has come off life under Frank Lampard at Chelsea this campaign. The 20-year-old forward hit the ground running with his goal against Liverpool in the UEFA Super Cup earlier this campaign and has since then managed 4 goals in 8 domestic appearances.
