The 27-year-old is currently on loan at Turkish outfit Besiktas and is deemed surplus to requirements by the Arsenal manager Unai Emery.

AC Milan have rejected the overtures of out-of-favor Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny after the player reportedly approached the Italian giants over a transfer to the San Siro.

The 27-year-old is currently playing on loan at Turkish outfit Besiktas and has little to no hope of resurrecting his career at the Emirates Stadium under manager Unai Emery.

And, if reports in Italy are to be believed, the player and his representatives recently approached Milan with the offer of a potential transfer to Serie A in the January transfer window.

But the Rossoneri chiefs appeared to take little note of the player’s request, believing that his inclusion in the squad won’t greatly strengthen the club’s midfield options.

Elneny is having a difficult time in Turkey

Since securing a season-long loan move to Besiktas at the start of this season, Elneny has struggled to make his mark in Turkish football.

The 27-year-old had a terrible start to life in Turkey as he was sent off on his official debut for the club, while also receiving a three-game ban from the Turkish Football Federation.

News reports quoting Turkish outlets claim that the player is seemingly unhappy at the club’s position in the league and cannot come to terms with the fans’ protest.

Besiktas currently sit at 8th place in the Turkish Super Lig and find themselves bottom of their Europa League group stage after losing all four of their opening games in the competition.

Consequently, with chances growing slim that they’ll be competing in Europe at all next season, Elneny was looking for a way out before AC Milan shut the door on his proposal of securing a permanent transfer away from Arsenal.

The player’s agent was quoted earlier this season saying that in addition to AC Milan, there are a host of other European clubs interested in his client’s signature.

While that might well be true at that time, it seems difficult to see many top clubs in big European leagues still retaining their interest in the Egyptian after his horrid spell in Turkey.

As long as Elneny doesn’t discover his form between now and the end of the season and fire Besiktas to a respectable finish in the Turkish league, the 27-year-old’s only choice might be a return to the Emirates Stadium next summer.

A move back to North London might not spell the end of troubles for the Egyptian, as Arsenal are already well-stocked in their defensive midfield department. Matteo Guendouzi has been performing well since coming on the scene last season, with Lucas Torreira a viable option on the bench.

That means that former FC Basel midfielder might have to secure a move away from Arsenal if he’s to get regular game time in the near future. And with the next African Cup of Nations kicking off after the end of 2020/21 season, Elneny would have to play more if he’s to represent Egypt in the competition.
