Arsenal star fighting for future after warning by manager Mikel Arteta

Arsenal star fighting for future after warning by manager Mikel Arteta
Guendouzi is facing a fight to retain his position in the club's starting XI

The French midfielder was dropped from the Gunners squad that recorded a resounding 4-0 victory over Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon.

Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi is fighting to save his career at the Emirates after he was dumped from his side’s squad that beat Newcastle United at the weekend.

The France under-21 star infuriated Gunners’ boss Mikel Arteta with his lax attitude in the warm weather training camp held in Dubai during the recently concluded winter break.

Arteta was reportedly unhappy over the player’s effort during the training sessions and penalized the Frenchman by dropping him from Sunday’s matchday squad.

And now Daily Mirror is reporting that the 20-year-old’s inclusion from the squad isn’t a one-off as he faces a fight to retain his place in the club’s starting line-up.

The publication further claims that there was surprise among the Arsenal dressing room on the exclusion of Guendouzi who has become a fan favorite at the Emirates Stadium this term.

Apart from the performances which he has put in for the club in the last several months, the Frenchman’s fiery attitude and his proclivity to take one for the team has made him a highly popular figure among the Gunners’ faithful.

That meant nothing to Arteta as he dropped Guendouzi to show who the boss is. The former Man City assistant boss has reiterated several times that it is the performances and levels his players display in training that influences his team selections.

It means that if the 20-year-old is to get back in the starting line-up for this Thursday’s trip to Olympiakos and the weekend game against Everton, he’d have to display fight in the club’s training sessions in the build-up to both these clashes.

Dani Ceballos has given a hint on his Arsemal future

The on-loan midfielder from Real Madrid who spent the better part of the last two months on the treatment table might be the biggest beneficiary of Gunedouzi’s absence in the weeks to come.

Ceballos put in an excellent performance on the weekend and was praised by his boss Arteta who commended the Spaniard for training ‘like an animal’ before the game.

The 23-year-old has stated in recent weeks that he intends to get back his position in the starting XI which he lost after spending a month on the sidelines.

Provided Guendouzi is unable to convince his manager to give him a way back into the team and the Gunners build-on from their superb display from Sunday, Ceballos might get already have got his wish.
