Arsenal tipped to sell five players in the summer transfer window
Kolasinac is expected to make way for new signings in the summer

After Mikel Arteta completes his recovery from coronavirus, the Gunners are set to become active in the transfer market.

Arsenal are prepared to sell up to five players in the summer transfer window as manager Mikel Arteta plans an overhaul of his squad ahead of the 2020/21 campaign.

The Gunners’ boss is currently completing his recovery from coronavirus after he was tested positive for COVID-19 two weeks ago.

Arteta was said to return to the club’s London Colney training ground this week before the club told its players it would be inappropriate to return to training.

The North London outfit has decided to delay the resumption of any training sessions, with any date as to when the players will be back in training yet to be given.

Arsenal to sell five players in the summer

The Gunners have improved since the arrival of the Spaniard

According to a report from Football.London, the former Man City assistant boss is set to ax five members of the squad to make way for new arrivals ahead of next season.

The Spaniard added loan defenders Pablo Mari and Cedric Soares to his team in January, with Mari expected to make his stay in London permanent come the summer.

His stay at the club, even with the expected departure of Soares once his loan-spell expires, is likely to make Arsenal busy in a lively and truncated transfer window.

Shkodran Mustafi is one of the first players expected to leave the club after he was close to a move out both last summer and in January. The former Valencia man has earned the ire of fans with his performances this season and isn’t likely to extend his stay at the club beyond the summer.

Players who are expected to leave

Apart from the German international Mustafi, Turkish center-half Sokratis Papastathopolous might also bid farewell to his Arsenal teammates in the coming months.

The 32-year-old isn’t unpopular among the Gunners fanbase, but his age coupled with the arrival of last summer’s signing William Saliba from Saint-Etienne in the summer might pave the way for Sokratis’ exit in the summer.

Also expected to join Sokratis on the way out is left-back Sead Kolasinac. The arrival of Kieran Tierney from Celtic last summer combined with the rise of academy graduate Bukayo Saka means that the Bosnian international might be on the move.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Mohamed Elneny – the duo currently on loan at AS Roma and Besiktas respectively – complete the line-up of the quintet which Arsenal are planning to offload from their wage bill to raise transfer funds for new signings and make space for any potential arrivals.
