Arsenal transfer news: Gunners willing to let defender leave on loan in January

Since returning from his season-loan long at former side St Etienne, the French centre-back is yet to make a senior appearance for Mikel Arteta’s side.

Arsenal are willing to let centre-back William Saliba leave the club on loan in the January transfer window, per Sky Sports News.

The France U21 international, who was one of the highest-rated youngsters during his time in France, was snapped up by the Gunners for £27m before the start of last season, who agreed with his former side that Saliba would spend another season in Ligue 1 before moving to North London.

However, since moving to the Emirates before the start of this season, Saliba has been frustrated by the lack of playing time. The 20-year-old was dropped from Gunners’ squad in October and is yet to play a minute for them in the Premier League this season.

Football.London hints that the lack of playing time being afforded to Saliba might have to do with the fact that he was brought at the club by Arteta’s predecessor Unai Emery, who was sacked by the North London outfit in the middle of the 2019/20 campaign.

And with their current manager adamant in his belief that the centre-backs he has already used this season are an upgrade over Saliba, the North London outfit have decided to send the Frenchman on a six-month loan when the transfer window reopens next month.
