Arsenal transfer news: Midfielder attracts interest from Villarreal and latest on Willian and Gabriel Magalhaes

After falling out of favor with manager Mikel Arteta, the young French midfielder looks set to be on his way out of the Emirates Stadium in the ongoing summer transfer window.

Unai Emery is interested in making Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi one of his first signings as Villarreal manager, Foot Mercato has reported.

The 21-year-old defensive midfielder hasn’t featured for the Gunners since his outburst in 2-1 loss to Brighton in June, and it seems that Mikel Arteta has decided to sell the Frenchman before the start of the 2020/21 campaign.

Guendouzi was one of the best players for the Gunners under previous manager Emery who was sacked by the Gunners in November last year. The midfielder’s performances under the current Villarreal boss also earned him a place in the 2019 Golden Boy shortlist.

However, following the departure of Emery from the scene and the midfielder’s on-field outbursts, Guendouzi’s stock has continued to fall at the Emirates, with the 21-year-old now behind the likes of Dani Ceballos and Lucas Torreira in the club’s pecking order.

The 31-year-old has rejected Chelsea’s latest contract offer that would have seen him extend his stay at Stamford Bridge until June 2022.

Willian has agreed to put pen to paper on a three-year contract with Arsenal worth around £100,000 a week, reports ESPN.

The 32-year-old Brazilian wanted to extend his seven-year-long association with Chelsea, but the Blues weren’t prepared to offer him the contract he wanted. Willian wanted a three-year deal from the Stamford Bridge outfit but they only offered him a two-year contract.

Reports claim that the Gunners decided to take advantage of the uncertain situation and are now on the verge of announcing his move to the Emirates Stadium. His signing would be a massive coup on the part of the Gunners as the Brazilian has already won two league titles during his stay in England.

The Gunners faced competition from the likes of Everton – as well as several overseas clubs – for the signature of the winger.

Despite the arrival of William Saliba from St. Etienne and David Luiz signing a new contract with the club, the North London club are reportedly keen to add another centre-half to their ranks.

Arsenal have entered the race for the signature of 22-year-old Brazil and Lille centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes, reports Goal.

The highly-rated centre-back is on the transfer radar of several of Europe’s elite clubs, with Manchester United also reportedly keeping tabs on the defender who is valued at around £25m by his club.

Earlier reports from France claimed that Magalhaes had already made up his mind to join Mikel Arteta’s side, but both Goal and ESPN claim that the player is yet to make a final decision regarding his future.

The Gunners’ faithful might hope that their club’s prior business with Lille might give them an edge in negotiations. Arsenal signed Nicolas Pepe from the Ligue 1 outfit last summer in a £72m deal that appeared to have put the relations between both sides on the right track.
