The Red devils want to secure the signing of the Portuguese midfielder only six months after they missed out on the 25-year-old.

Sporting Lisbon have told Manchester United to subsidize the wages of Marcos Rojo if they want to include the defender in a player-plus-swap deal for Bruno Fernandes.

The Red devils are ready to offer up to £65m to secure the Portuguese on a deal that would make the 25-year-old the 2nd most expensive player in the club’s history.

United initially wanted to sign Fernandez in the summer but were unable to complete the transfer with Tottenham and Real Madrid also reportedly interested in the playmaker back then.

But with Spurs now setting their sights on Gedson Fernandes and Real Madrid benefiting from the rise of Federico Valverde, United are currently in pole position to secure the central midfielder.

The Portuguese publication Ojogo further reports that the Portuguese outfit are ready to sell the midfielder if United agree to cover a portion of their defender’s wage packet.

The Red devils are currently in negotiations with the Primeira Liga side and have offered up Rojo, Angel Gomes or Joel Pereira in the deal for the Portugal international.

It is also claimed that the club are ready to table an offer worth £65m for the midfielder as they look to secure his signing before the end of this month.

His potential signing would further reinforce United’s push for the top-four and would also strengthen the club’s position in the event of a likely Nemanja Matic departure.

The Serbian defensive midfielder is reportedly on the transfer radar of former boss Jose Mourinho who wants to bring the 31-year-old to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in January.

Sporting boss unaware of United’s interest in playmaker

Bruno Fernandes' transfer to Man United might be in jeopardy
The 25-year-old has been in form this season

After seeing his side cruising to a 3-1 victory over fellow league outfit Setubal on Saturday, manager Silas had stated that he was unaware of United’s interest in his player.

Speaking after the win at Setubal, he said: “I can’t guarantee any of these things because I don’t know.

“I’m already thinking about the game with Benfica [on Friday] and I’m thinking about using him.”

Fernandes showed that he was unfazed with rumors linking him to a move to the Premier League as he scored twice in his side’s victory at the weekend.

His double was a perfect reminder of the brilliant season the 25-year-old is having, as he has already scored 15 goals in only 24 appearances for his side this term.
