Atletico Madrid star approached over MLS transfer, Chelsea want €42m for midfielder and more

Former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder David Beckham is keen to bring star names to the side he founded in the Major League Soccer in 2018.

David Beckham tried to convince Diego Costa to sign for his MLS side Inter Miami before the coronavirus pandemic brought everything to a halt.

The Manchester United and Real Madrid legend has been trying to persuade household names across Europe to sign for the outfit he founded in the Major League Soccer last year. The side is backed by Cuban-American businessmen Jorge and Jose Mass, among other billionaires.

Marca reports that Beckham, who has already sounded out Real Madrid midfielders James Rodriguez and Luka Modric over a potential move to stateside, also made an attempt to persuade the fiery-tempered Costa to join his team though a concrete offer never materialized.

The 31-year-old hasn’t be a regular starter for Atletico Madrid this season, as he has made only 19 appearances for the club in all competitions. And the Rojiblancos are open to the idea of selling him in the summer after the coronavirus pandemic took a major hit at their finances.

Top News 2: Chelsea want €42m for midfielder

Chelsea want €42m for midfielder
He is currently on a season-long loan at AS Monaco

The 25-year-old defensive midfielder is currently on a season-long loan at his former side AS Monaco whom he left for Chelsea in a €40m move in July 2017.

Chelsea have made it clear that it would take a bid in the region of €42m to convince them to let defensive midfielder Tiemoué Bakayoko leave the club in the summer transfer window.

Monaco are one of the parties interested in the player’s signature, as per RMC Sport journalist Loic Tanzi, but the club are reportedly unable to raise the funds that would help them re-sign the 25-year-old on a permanent basis.

PSG are one of the other clubs who are looking at Bakayoko, with their technical director Leonardo identifying the player as one of the club’s potential targets in its bid to reinforce its defensive midfield department ahead of next season.

However, with Tottenham midfielder Ndombele also reportedly on the transfer market, it seems difficult to envisage a scenario in which the French champions would pay such a considerable amount on the Chelsea midfielder who has struggled for consistency since joining the Blues in 2017.

Four Four Two [quoting PA news agency] reports that the English top-flight has advised all its clubs to consider recalling their players for training as it prepares for the possible resumption of football in June.

The 2019/20 season has been brought to a halt since March due to the pandemic and it has seen many of the English clubs’ foreign players returning to their homeland.

However, with ‘Project Restart’ aiming for the return of games before mid-June and the return of training by May, Premier League has reportedly written to clubs suggesting that they should think about recalling their players back to England.

Tottenham’s January signing Steve Bergwijn, Manchester City defensive midfielder Fernandinho and Chelsea winger Willian are among some of the household names across England who are currently back in their countries.
