  • Atletico Madrid will be hoping to overturn their recent slump in form when they take on Chelsea in the sides’ first leg R-16 Champions League clash on Tuesday
  • Diego Simeone’s side started the season well in all competitions but has seen their form go south in La Liga over the past few games
  • Chelsea, on the other hand, are yet to lose a game since the appointment of Thomas Tuchel as the club’s manager back in January

Atletico Madrid will be looking to make the most of their ‘home’ advantage when they ‘host’ Chelsea at the Arena Naţională in Bucharest, Romania on Tuesday.

Diego Simeone’s side finished 2nd in their Champions League group behind reigning champions Bayern Munich after they won only two of their group games, drawing three and losing one in the process. They are currently sitting at the top of La Liga, though, three points ahead of 2nd placed Real Madrid.

Thomas Tuchel’s men, meanwhile, have worked hard under their new manager and currently find themselves in Champions League places in the Premier League. They are yet to lose a game under their new manager, though they have drawn two of the seven played under the former PSG boss.

Atletico Madrid Vs Chelsea Team News and starting lineups

The ‘home’ side will be without centre-back Jose Gimenez who has been ruled out of this fixture with an injury he sustained against Levante at the weekend.

Hector Herrera won’t be available for selection either, after the Mexico international went into quarantine following a positive COVID-19 test. Kieran Trippier remains suspended from all competitions due to breaking betting regulations.

Tuchel doesn’t have to deal with any major injury concerns apart from Thiago Silva. The former PSG centre-back sustained a muscle injury during Chelsea’s 1-0 victory over Tottenham at the start of February and will watch Tuesday’s clash from the sidelines.
