Latest news from Premier League
Aston Villa suffered the first defeat of the season after 3-0 loss against Premier League newcomers Leeds United.
Villa Park residents came into Friday’s match having won all of their opening four fixtures including a memorable 7-2 win over defending champions Liverpool, but three second-half strikes from former Chelsea striker denied the home side top spot.
Injury-hit visitors spurned a couple of chances before half-time as record signing Rodrigo missed the target from close range. However, Villa came closest to score when Jack Grealish’s shot was cleared off the line by Luke Ayling.
A few minutes before the hour-mark, Patrick Bamford squeezed in from close range as Emi Martinez saved shot fell kindly for the in-form forward. Midway through the second half, the 27-year-old stunned Martinez from 20-yards with an inch-perfect left-corner finish, and then seven-minutes later the English man claimed the match ball with a curling finish.
Son, who is in sublime form this season along with strike partner Harry Kane, has a contract with North London club until 2023 and Spurs management is doing best to keep hold of the South Korean with a bumper offer.
The 28-year-old has already scored nine times in six appearances so far this season and established himself as an integral part of Jose Mourinho’s plan who is confident that Son will commit his future to the club.
“Son has three years of contract so it’s not like we are in an extreme situation of everybody being too worried. I think it’s more a question of Son loves it here and I believe that he would like to commit his future to the club for more time.” Mourinho commented.
The new mega offer will lift the South Korean to the ranks of club’s top-earner with talisman Harry Kane, and Spurs number 7 will earn £200,000-a-week including performance related bonuses as well.
Juventus and Inter Milan are in pole position to land Chelsea defender Emerson Palmieri in January transfer window.
Brazilian left-back didn’t get enough game time under Frank Lampard and is expected to leave Stamford Bridge in January as three Serie A clubs keeping tabs on the out-of-favor defender.
After arriving at the club back in January 2018 from AS Roma for a reported fee of €20 million, Emerson failed to become the part of Chelsea’s starting XI and remain in and out of the team under different managers.
The arrival of Leicester’s left-back Ben Chilwell in summer has pushed the 26-year-old further down, and former Serie A ace hasn’t picked up for a single game this season. Emerson was linked with a couple of Italian giants in summer but the move didn’t materialize in the end.
Frustrated left-back may return to Serie A following strong interest from Juventus and Inter Milan, where he can reunite with former boss Antonio Conte. According to a couple of news outlets, Napoli are also interested in Emerson.
