According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona forward Carles Perez has reportedly reached an agreement over a contract renewal with the club.
The reigning La Liga champions have struggled in the league this season and currently find themselves 4 points off leaders Real Madrid at the top of the table.
Their poor early season form has led to reports claiming that Messi wants manager Ernesto Valverde out of the club. Valverde has come under-fire for his questionable tactics, one of which is his stubborn insistence to pick Luis Suarez even though the former Liverpool man is clearly out of form for quite some time.
With Messi out injured and Ousmane Dembele once against suffering a setback on his injury before the latest comeback, Carles Perez has been given a chance to impress in recent weeks.
The 21-year-old has grabbed the opportunity with both hands as apart from scoring 1 goal already in the league, Perez has provided 2 assists to his teammates in five La Liga appearances so far this season.
Perez set to extend his stay at Barcelona
Mundo Deportivo reports that in addition to his good form for the club in the current campaign, it was Perez' loyalty towards Barcelona which convinced the Catalan giants to grant him a contract extension.
The Spanish newspaper reports that amid reports of the Spanish champions going for Neymar in the summer, there were multiple clubs, both in Spain and Europe, who expressed their interest to sign the 21-year-old on a permanent basis.
A move away from the Camp Nou failed to materialize for Perez because he himself didn't want to leave the club, a gesture which the Barcelona hierarchy has now appreciated by rewarding the youngster with a new long-term deal.
It's interesting to note that even if Barcelona didn't extend his contract, the terms of agreement of Perez' previous agreement with the club meant that his contract would have been automatically renewed had the Spaniard played three more games between now and the end of the season.
However, the club decided not to wait and has now agreed formalities with the player and his agent regarding an agreement which would see Perez remain a Barcelona player until 2022.
