While being interviewed by Jordi Baste on the radio programme ‘El món a Rac1, the Barcelona star answered a plethora of questions about his past, present, and future.

Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi has revealed that he wants to end his career at the Camp Nou, putting an end to rumors that the Argentine was thinking of leaving the club upon the expiry of his current contract next summer.

“Yes, my idea is to stay for many years. I’ve always thought this way and nothing has changed.” Messi told the interviewer.

“It’s clear that my idea is to finish my career at Barça. Especially because of what I feel for the club and for my family. We are very happy in Barcelona.”

Messi’s admission of his desire to stay at the Catalan giants have come at a time when multiple rumors were doing rounds that the club hasn’t been able to convince Messi to sign yet another contract extension, and that he might leave the club for free before the start of next season.

Messi: Here’s why I want to finish my career at Barca

In addition to letting out his dream of finishing his trophy-laden career at the Camp Nou, Messi also explained the reasoning behind his desire.

“From my childhood, I have dreamed of playing for Newell’s because of what football means in Argentina,’’ admitted the Argentine before quickly dispelling that he still had any intention of moving back to play in the South American country.

“But sometimes one has to prioritize the family. I wouldn’t like to break up the friendships that my children have made here, as happened to me when I was little.”

His comments about the importance Messi attaches to his family shouldn’t surprise his fans who are aware of how peculiar the Argentine is about his domestic life.

One of the reports about the Argentine’s family life explains how Messi prefers to spend his leisure time at home with his wife Antonella, their three sons, Thiago, Mateo and Ciro and the family dog Hulk in his luxurious house located in the small beach town of Bellamar.

The wide-ranging interview of the Argentine also features a passage in which Messi admits that he wanted to leave the Camp Nou giants in 2013/14.

“In 2013/14 I did want to leave Barça. There was a situation that went beyond what I felt for the club. I wanted to leave Spain because of the tax issue. I felt mistreated.”

Messi also told his interviewer that as far as his contract situation at the club is concerned, there isn’t anything “new to report” before adding that there will “surely be no problem” as both the parties are adamant to further extending their relationship.

When asked about last season’s capitulation at Anfield where Barcelona gave away a 3-goal first-leg lead to be dumped out of the Champions League quarter-final, the Argentine refused to throw manager Ernesto Valverde under the bus.

“The defeat at Liverpool was the players’ fault. We froze and the memory of Rome came into our heads. It was nothing to do with Valverde.”
