He will be out of contract next summer
The Camp Nou outfit are set to become highly active in the upcoming transfer window as they prepare to overhaul their squad ahead of the 2020/21 campaign.
The Catalan giants are set to become active in the upcoming transfer window, with reports claiming that the club is planning a major overhaul of its playing squad ahead of next season.
Messi is currently in the last few months of his Barca contract, and while many around the club expect him to sign the dotted line and agree to an extension in the summer, the club knows that only a better squad that could challenge for more trophies will see Messi stay put for the foreseeable future.
Over the last few months, rumors were going around that with Sane unsettled in Manchester, he was ‘desperate’ to return to his homeland in the summer.
Calciomercato claims that it is no longer the case as the 24-year-old winger may well choose a move to the Catalan outfit should Barca come calling for his services.
The report is undoubtedly a blow to Bayern who have been actively courting the player’s signature for more than a year. Bayern saw their offer for Sane rejected by Man City last summer and have since then been repeatedly linked with another move for the winger.
They were hopeful that with the player’s deal with the reigning Premier League champions running down in June 2021, Man City would be forced to cash-in on Sane as they might not risk him leaving on a free next summer.
Given the fact that he's only 24 and has already shown the world the talent he possesses with his performances in the Premier League, nobody could deny that Sane would increase the attacking threat that Barca currently pose to opposition defenses.
However, the injury suffered by Luis Suarez midway through the ongoing season and the pressure it put on Barcelona to sign Martin Braithwaite in February makes it clear that the funds Barca would need to spend to bring Sane to the Camp Nou could be better spent elsewhere.
Their midfield, too, could deal with an injection of young blood. Both Ivan Rakitic and Arturo Vidal have been continuously linked with other clubs throughout this campaign, with the Chilean looking increasingly likely to depart from the Camp Nou once the transfer window reopens.
Throw into the mix the fight that is going on between the club and the players over the 70% proposed cut in the latter's wages due to the pandemic, and it becomes clear that instead of strengthening an already strengthened left-wing department, the Barca higher -ups should spend the money that the club has in other areas.
