All the latest Barcelona transfer news
In the latest Barcelona transfer news, the Catalan giants are reported to be confident that they have all but signed their main target for the summer.
Barcelona are confident they will have the signing of striker Lautaro Martinez wrapped up before the start of next season, reports 90 Min.
The 22-year-old Inter Milan forward is the La Liga leaders’ key transfer target for the summer as they prepare for life after Luis Suarez who will be turning 34 next year.
However, while they splashed a massive amount on the Uruguayan to secure his arrival from Liverpool in July 2014, their financial situation in the wake of coronavirus crisis has forced Barca to get innovative in their efforts to sign Martinez.
Throw into the mix the £400m sum that the club has spent on the likes of Ousmane Dembele, Philippe Coutinho and Antoine Griezmann in recent years – players who have been unable to live up the hype, and it becomes clear why the Camp Nou giants are trying to negotiate with Inter to bring down their astronomical valuation of the Argentine.
Barcelona defender Nelson Semedo has refused to rule out the possibility he might end up leaving the Camp Nou giants one day to return to his former side Benfica.
The Portugal international has made these claims while giving an interview to Sport, adding that he’d like to return to ‘give everything’ to Benfica and ‘help the team.’
Semedo spent two years at the Portuguese giants between 2015 and 2017 after coming through the club’s youth ranks in the preceding years.
The 26-year-old made 63 appearances for Benfica during his stay in Portugal and helped the club win two Primeira Liga titles, among other domestic trophies.
The Argentine superstar has stated on numerous occasions in the past that he’d like to finish his career back in his home country.
Lionel Messi is unlikely to return to Argentina to finish his career because of the security concerns in the Latin American country, as per his cousin.
Messi, 32, has always told the press that he’d like to one day return to his native country and play for hometown side Newell’s Old Boys before hanging up his boots.
However, his opinion regarding a return to Argentina has apparently undergone a shift in recent years. Messi admitted in an interview with TyC last year that it might not be possible for him to once again play for the side where he kick started his career.
The same opinion is voiced by his cousin, however, for different reasons. Maxi Biancucchi told Radio Club Octubre that he has his doubts that the safety issues in Argentina might prevent the Argentine from coming back.
