Barcelona transfer news: Koeman identifies Jordi Alba replacement, update on Lionel Messi’s future and more

The 23-year-old left-back spent the final part of the 2019/20 season on loan in Germany and helped RB Leipzig reach the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League.

Barcelona are eyeing a sensational summer swoop for Manchester City left-back Angelino, but the Camp Nou outfit might face competition from RB Leipzig for the player’s signature.

Angelino was an integral part of the RB Leipzig side that defied the odds by reaching the UEFA Champions League semi-finals this season. The 23-year-old also impressed with his performances in Bundesliga, managing 1 goal and 2 assists in 12 German top-flight starts.

His versatility might be another factor that has made Angelino a desirable signing for the new Barca manager Ronald Koeman, as the Spaniard can also play in wide midfield apart from his usual position on the left side of the defense.

The Guardian reports that City are prepared to sell Angelino this summer provided their £30m valuation of the young left-back is met, with Pep Guardiola looking for a player who would stand a better chance of competing with Benjamin Mendy for the Citizens’ first-choice left-back role.

Who will succeed Lionel Messi at Barcelona? Samuel Eto'o identifies his successor

As Ligalive reported yesterday, various Spanish news outlets have claimed that the Argentine is ready to end his almost two-decade-long association with Barcelona.

Paris Saint-Germain are planning the transfer swoop of the 2020 summer transfer window that would see Lionel Messi reunite with his former teammate Neymar, as per The US Sun.

The 33-year-old Argentine, who has scored 634 goals in 730 games for the Catalan giants since making his senior debut in 2004, is reportedly on the verge of leaving the club due to several on- and off-the-field issues that has rendered Barca unable to compete among Europe’s elite over the past few seasons.

Messi spent for years with Neymar at Barcelona – with the PSG superstar claiming last summer that he was keen on a return to Barca. But with the Catalan giants regressing over the past 12 months and PSG on the verge of their first-ever Champions League title, Neymar appears happy in Paris.

The Brazilian would have some convincing to do if he’s to tempt his former teammate Messi to decide in favor of a move to Paris, though, as the likes of Inter Milan and Juventus are both reportedly keeping tabs on the Barcelona superstar.

Prior to the striker giving an update on his future, various media outlets had claimed that he was deemed surplus to requirements at Barcelona with Ronald Koeman’s arrival.

Barcelona striker Luis Suarez has insisted he would remain at the club as long as ‘they want to count’ on him, as per Daily Mail [via El Pais].

Suarez, 33, has been on the receiving end of some fierce criticism despite scoring 21 times in 36 appearances for the club in all competitions last season. Multiple reports interpreted the appointment of Ronald Koeman as Barca boss as a sign that Suarez would be sold this summer.

But the former Liverpool and Ajax star believes he still has what it takes to help Barcelona reclaim its spot at the pinnacle of Spanish football. The Uruguay international further stated in his interview that he’d like to stay at Barca even if that means he won’t get much game time next season.

The fierce striker joined Barcelona from Liverpool in 2014 and has gone on to become the third top-scorer in the club’s illustrious history. He has also helped Barca amass a horde of trophies during his six-year stay in Spain, including 4 La Liga titles and 1 Champions League trophy.
