Barcelona’s key in Depay pursuit, Real Madrid’s Mbappe chase reaches crucial stage, and more news

The Catalan giants were unable to complete the Dutchman’s signing in the summer and are now looking to pursue his signature in January.

Barcelona will have to sell Martin Braithwaite to finance the signing of Memphis Depay in January, according to SPORT.

The Camp Nou outfit are increasingly confident of signing the Dutch forward after they stuck an agreement with Depay over personal terms in the summer. Lyon are also resigned to losing the 28-year-old who will be out of contract at the end of the season.

However, Barcelona’s precarious financial situation might throw a spanner in their pursuit of the former PSV and Manchester United winger. The COVID-19 pandemic has dealt their finances a huge blow and Barca would have to sell before any new signings could come through the doors.

Braithwaite isn’t the only player Barca are keen to offload in January, as Ligalive reported a few days ago. Ronald Koeman has drawn a blacklist of players the Dutchman wants to get rid of in the winter transfer window to make room for new signings.

Provided the French striker refuses to sign a contract extension with PSG, Los Blancos will attempt to prise him away from Parc des Princes next summer.

Real Madrid’s long-term pursuit of Kylian Mbappe has reached a crucial stage after PSG sporting director confirmed that the Ligue 1 outfit are trying to tie down the Frenchman to a new contract.

Spanish news publication AS claims that Los Blancos have their eyes set on the 21-year-old in the hope that he declines his club’s offer of extending his current deal with Thomas Tuchel’s side, which runs out at the end of next season.

Mbappe has reportedly rejected three offers from PSG and doing the same for the fourth time would be a huge boast for Zinedine Zidane’s side who are ready to splash €180m on the World Cup winner to land him next summer.

The 21-year-old has enjoyed massive success since joining Les Parisiens from Monaco in 2017, scoring 97 goals in 132 appearances.

Although UEFA’s original plan is to host the delayed European championships in 12 cities across the continent, alternatives are being discussed.

England’s Football Association is in talks with European football regulatory body UEFA to switch the Euro 2020 to the United Kingdom, per Daily Mail.

UEFA’s original plan remains to host the delayed European championships in 12 cities across the continent, but the English authorities have stepped up their efforts to become the sole hosts of the competition delayed by a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

England’s efforts are boasted by the fact that Scotland, one of the participants in EURO 2020, will already play all their clashes in the UK. That means that switching the competition’s venues won’t have any impact on the fixtures of the Scottish side.

Daily Mail further claims that Russia also tried to become the sole hosts of the European championships but its efforts ultimately proved unsuccessful.
