Bayern want bidding war for midfielder, Arsenal change transfer stance on defender and more news

With the 29-year-old pushing Bayern to green light his move to the Premier League, the Bundesliga giants are expecting a new bid from Liverpool over the coming days.

Bayern Munich are expecting a new bid from Liverpool for midfielder Thiago Alcantara in the coming days, reports transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The 29-year-old midfielder has made up his mind that he wants to leave the Allianz Arena after seven highly successful seasons with Bayern. He has made it clear to the club’s higher-ups that he has no intention of extending his current deal, due to end next summer.

Romano further claimed in his Tweet that Jurgen Klopp is pushing the Reds to complete the transfer of the veteran midfielder. The Liverpool manager is keen to sign Thiago after he was unable to land Timo Werner from RB Leipzig earlier in the summer.

But the Premier League champions will have to move quickly if they want to sign Thiago, as ESPN reports that Manchester United have been invited by Bayern to negotiate for Thiago, with the Bundesliga champions keep to create a bidding war for the midfielder.

After looking on the verge of leaving the Gunners over the past few months, the England international now looks set to carry on as an Arsenal player.

Arsenal have changed their transfer stance on Ainsley Maitland-Niles as the Emirates outfit have decided to keep him at the club for the coming season.

The turnaround in the Gunners’ stance have come after months of speculation linking the 23-year-old to their fellow Premier League outfit Wolves. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side showed a concrete interest in Maitland-Niles and saw a bid of £15m for the midfielder rejected by Arsenal.

Arsenal were adamant at the time that they won’t let the versatile player leave the club for anything less than £20m. But his performances over the past few weeks have convinced Mikel Arteta to include him in his plans for the 2020/21 campaign.

Evening Standard reports that the change in the Gunners’ stance have come after seeing Maitland-Niles put in excellent performances in the FA Cup semi-final and final, as well as last week’s Community Shield victory over Liverpool.

The Dutch midfield maestro has played an instrumental part in Liverpool’s Champions League and Premier League title victories over the past two years.

Barcelona are close to reaching an agreement with Georgino Wijnaldum that would make the Liverpool midfielder Ronald Koeman’s first signing, reports Telegraaf [via Barca Universal].

The 29-year-old attacking midfielder has less than a year remaining on his Liverpool contract and interestingly, talks regarding an extension are still to begin.

Wijnaldum was the lynchpin of the Netherland’s National team during the time Koeman was the manager of the side. The attacking midfielder enjoyed playing under the current Barca boss and scored 10 goals in 17 appearances for his nation.

His contractual situation at Liverpool, which has seen the Dutchman enter into the final year of his Reds’ contract, has also seen the Reds linked with a swoop for Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara as Wijnaldum’s potential replacement at the club.
