The Bundesliga giants have a history of signing young and talented players from English football and letting them flourish into world-beaters at the Signal Iduna Park.

Borussia Dortmund are set to beat Manchester United and Liverpool to the signing of £30m rated Birmingham City midfielder Jude Bellingham.

His potential move to the Signal Iduna Park would deal a huge blow to the transfer hopes of Man United who had set their sights on securing the services of the young starlet.

It would be the second time over the past few months that a promising youngster would reject overtures from Red Devils in favor of a move to the Westfalenstadion.

During the January transfer window, Erling Braut Haaland, despite reportedly holding talks with United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward, decided to put pen on paper with the Bundesliga club.

According to a report by the German publication Sport Bild, the Signal Iduna Park residents are ready to smash their transfer record to land the 16-year-old.

Lucien Favre’s side, who currently sit 4 points off leaders Bayern Munich in the league table, are prepared to pay up to £30m for the youngster, a staggering fee for a player who is yet to complete a full season at the senior level.

Provided Dortmund decide to throw the gauntlet and meet Birmingham’s valuation of their young midfielder, they’d break their transfer record, previously held by Mats Hummels who rejoined the club for a £26m fee at the start of this season.

The Bundesliga outfit’s ability to meet the Championship side’s demand would mean that United, who are being linked with the highly-rated Englishman for quite some time, would have to set their sights elsewhere as they try and reinforce their midfield department before the start of next season.

How is Bellingham performing this season?

Since making his debut for Birmingham’s U-23 team in October 2018, the lanky midfielder has refused to put a foot wrong in his relatively nascent career.

His first contract with the club came in July 2019 as Bellingham signed a two-year deal with the Championship side worth £145-a-week, before traveling with the senior team on their pre-season tour of Portugal.

The midfielder’s impressive performances in his first seven months as a senior player, which include 4 goals in the Championship, have earned him plaudits and made Bellingham the subject of transfer interest from several top European clubs.

Given Dortmund’s history of signing young players from England and giving them the necessary game time to flourish, they’re currently the front-runners in a transfer battle that would make Bellingham the most expensive teenager in the history of English football.
