Bosnich identifies United’s weakness, Lotito would accept unconventional title decider and more

Former Red Devils goalkeeper claims that while Odion Ighalo has impressed in such a short amount of time and has proven himself able, a higher-class back-up striker is needed in order for the club to compete.

Mark Bosnich is of the belief that Manchester United need to sign a striker that will be able to provide cover to Marcus Rashford. Rashford is United’s top goal provider this season, having already scored 14 league goals, while Anthony Martial has also had his say with 11.

Following Rashford’s injury in January, United were forced to bring in reinforcements and subsequently signed Nigerian striker Odion Ighalo, on loan from Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua. Ighalo proved to be an instant hit and has already racked up 4 goals in 8 appearances.

While Bosnich is impressed with the Nigerian’s impact so far, he still feels his former club is lacking in that area. “We all witnessed Rashford’s injury so it was evident that United were pretty short on options at the front. Credit to Ighalo, he has been absolutely fantastic since coming in, but I still feel like they need to get a higher quality back-up in the summer,” he explained to Sky Sports News.

The outspoken Lazio owner has said that he prioritizes the interest of all 20 Serie A teams and would accept a one-off match to decide the league champion.

On Sunday, all Serie A clubs were given permission to return to individual training sessions on May 4, while there are also plans to continue with group training sessions on May 18.

Lazio were riding high before the coronavirus outbreak halted their season progress, with the Biancocelesti currently a point behind league leaders Juve. They are lead by in-form attacker Ciro Immobile, who is enjoying a productive season with 27 goals in the league.

When pressed by La Reppublica on his side’s title aspirations and whether he would accept an unconventional solution such as a one-off title decider, he responded: “Yes, that is one way to solve the issue, although I am not the one that decides. However, I primarily think of the interests of all Serie A clubs.”

“We are one point behind Juventus, and we have already beaten them twice, once in the Super Cup and once in the league, so I think we were well prepared for the challenge.”

Top News 3: 'Alexander-Arnold inspired Leicester demolition' - Warnock claims the right-back was behind Liverpool's best performance of the season

Liverpool's Trent-Alexander Arnold shows why he is one of the best right-backs in world football with some astonishing skills.
Liverpool's Trent-Alexander Arnold shows why he is one of the best right-backs in world football with some astonishing skills.

Former Reds defender has praised Liverpool’s title challenge this season, praising one individual in particular, citing Reds’ 4:0 Leicester demolition as a proof of his progress.

Stephen Warnock says Trent Alexander-Arnold absolutely “destroyed” Leicester in Liverpool‘s 4:0 Boxing Day win, and called it their “best display of the season so far.”

The in-form right-back grabbed two assists on the day, setting up two goals for Roberto Firmino while also getting on the scoresheet as well with a delightful strike. He has picked up his form from last season and already has 12 Premier League assists, lagging only behind City’s Kevin De Bruyne.

Warnock was speaking to Liverpool’s TV channel about the club’s season so far, and he is clearly in awe of what he has seen so far, highlighting Liverpool’s performance against Leicester in particular: “I think everybody expected a difficult game with Leicester an unpredictable opponent. But they totally dominated them, and Trent was unplayable, his every move was magic.”

“Leicester were second and the time so Liverpool really showed all their quality and I think it was one of those moments where you just lay down a marker for everybody else, and that’s what Trent and the rest of the team did.”
