Want away Chelsea midfielder Callum Hudson-Odoi is set to sign a new long term contract with the Blues.

After being heavily linked with Bayern Munich in the summer, the England international has now decided to stay at the Stamford Bridge for the foreseeable future, as per Football London.

The interest which the German club showed in Hudson-Odoi was far from being a product of Chelsea rumor mill – as the Blues rejected a sizable £35m pound bid from the German Champions for the teenage attacking midfielder.

At that time, it seemed that with only one year remaining on his current contract with the Blues, Chelsea risked letting the teenager go for free next season.

However, as news of the 18-year-old signing a new contract with Chelsea show, manager Frank Lampard can plan long-term with Odoi in his starting XI.

Hudson-Odoi staying is a huge news for Chelsea

After making over 24 appearances in his debut campaign for Chelsea last season, Hudson-Odoi attracted lot of interest from the likes of Bayern Munich for his services.

At one time in the summer, it seemed as if the young English prodigy would be a Bayern Munich player next season – when news of him rebuffing several attempts by Chelsea to pin him down with a new contract emerged.

However, facing the prospect of a transfer ban and having a manager in Frank Lampard who loves to develop youth, Chelsea simply refused to let Hudson-Odoi go even though the club risked letting him go for free next season.

And as news of Odoi signing a new contract with Chelsea emerge, the club’s decision to play hard ball with both the teenager and Bayern Munich might prove to be right.

For, even though Chelsea’s transfer ban would be lifted next summer, many around the club believe that Hudson-Odoi is a special talent which the club would find difficult to replace in case it agrees to sell him.

What makes Hudson-Odoi so good?

For a midfielder who is yet to turn 19, the attention which Hudson-Odoi has received from both his own club and those from abroad suggests that the attacking midfielder is a special talent.

Eden Hazard, Hudson-Odoi’s former Chelsea teammate, agrees with this assessment.

Back when the Real Madrid midfielder was still terrorizing Premier League defenses, Hazard claimed that his Chelsea teammate “has everything already” in his locker to be a star in years to come.

Hudson-Odoi is a prototype modern forward who is direct, quick and comfortable off either foot- and is therefore dangerous when facing opposition defenders one-on-one – plus he has an eye for goal too.

Also, even though playing opportunities haven’t been that plentiful for Hudson-Odoi, he still managed to score 5 goals in just over 24 appearances for Chelsea last season, more than 12 of which came from the bench.

Consequently, with Chelsea now reportedly tying him with a new long term contract, the Blues’ fans could expect great things to come from their academy product.
