Chelsea transfer news – Timo Werner latest, forward set to join AS Roma and battle for ‘next Cristiano Ronaldo’

With the 24-year-old Germany international set to leave RB Leipzig later this summer, the Blues have emerged as the favorites to land his signature.

Chelsea have stolen a march on their Premier League rivals Liverpool as they are now the favorites to land RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner, reports German news publication Bild.

Jurgen Klopp’s side were rumored to be the front-runners for the striker who has 25 goals in Bundesliga so far this season, but they have apparently lost Werner to Chelsea who have told RB Leipzig they are willing to meet the striker’s £53m release clause.

However, while the German news publication claim that Werner has made up his mind, Sky Sports claim that the striker will make a decision regarding his future early next week. But they do quote a source close to him admitting that Werner would be happy to play for Frank Lampard.

It is claimed that the 24-year-old wants to move to a club that would be playing in the Champions League next season and where he will get regular game time.

Due to his quick feet and great ability with the ball, the 18-year-old striker has been dubbed as the ‘next Cristiano Ronaldo’ by those who have seen him play for Brazilian outfit Santos.

Chelsea are ready to enter the three-club transfer race for Santos striker Kaio Jorge, with Serie A giants Juventus and Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen also reportedly interested in the striker.

Jorge, 18, has been dubbed as one of the brightest prospects in South American football and has scored seven goals in 11 games for Brazil’s Under-17 squad.

German publication Kicker claim that Frank Lampard is a huge admirer of the youngster who was widely expected to be on the verge of moving to Juventus before the coronavirus pandemic.

However, while the Old Lady’s interest in Jorge seems to have waned since the global health crisis, Chelsea hold all the aces in the race to sign the forward. That’s mainly because the striker has the same representative as former Blues duo David Luiz and Oscar.
