Crystal Palace interested in Liverpool star, Arsenal declare intent to sign Sporting Lisbon youngster and more news

The Eagles are facing competition from Aston Villa and Sheffield United for the signature of the England Under-21 international before next month’s transfer deadline day.

Crystal Palace, Sheffield United and Aston Villa are interested in the signing of Rhian Brewster and believe that Liverpool will allow the youngster to leave for £20m before next month’s transfer deadline.

The 20-year-old youngster spent the 2019/20 campaign on loan at Swansea and managed to score 11 goals in just 22 games for the Welsh outfit. His above-average performances convinced many Liverpool faithful that the forward will be retained by the club for the 2020/21 campaign.

But the Telegraph reports that the trio of Premier League clubs who are after his signature believe that Jurgen Klopp would allow the youngster to leave the Merseyside outfit this summer. They are therefore ready to sign Brewster either on loan or on a permanent deal.

Sheffield United are in the market for an attacker that could add more firepower to their attacking department and give their forward line a new dimension. Aston Villa, meanwhile, are after the Liverpool forward after they missed out on former Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson to Newcastle United.

Mikel Arteta’s side are in the market to sign a back-up for Kieran Tierney, with Sead Kolasinac set to leave the Emirates for Schalke this summer.

Arsenal have ‘declared their intent’ to sign highly-rated youngster Nuno Mendes from Sporting Lisbon, reports Portuguese outlet O Jogo.

The Gunners are reportedly impressed by what they saw from the youngster who made nine Primeira Liga appearances last term. But they aren’t the only side keeping tabs on the 18-year-old as Serie A giants AC Milan are also contemplating making an offer for the youngster.

Mikel Arteta’s side are in the market to sign a back-up for Kieran Tierney, with Sead Kolasinac set to bid farewell to the Premier League this summer. The Bosnia international wants to return to Bundesliga and Schalke are preparing an offer to sign the 27-year-old.

Arsenal’s reported pursuit of Mendes comes at a time when the left-back has only one year remaining on his Sporting Lisbon contract. His situation could play into the Gunners’ hands and allow them to sign Mendes on a cheap.

Top News 3: Man City identify two Kalidou Koulibaly alternatives

Despite already bringing in Dutch international Nathan Ake from Bournemouth, Pep Guardiola is still in the market for a new centre-back.

Manchester City have identified Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenez and Sevilla centre-back Diego Carlos as potential alternatives to Kalidou Koulibaly, as per Sport.

Pep Guardiola’s side remain interested in the Senegal international Koulibaly but won’t negotiate with Napoli for his signature due to their less-than-cordial relation with the club. The 2018/19 Premier League champions are also unwilling to meet Napoli’s €85m valuation of the defender.

Their stance has led to City turning their attention to the two La Liga defenders who impressed with their performances last term. Gimenez was a key pillar of the Atletico Madrid side that conceded the least amount of goals in the Spanish top-flight last term.

Carlos, meanwhile, marshalled the Sevilla defense that contributed to the club winning its fourth Europa League title in the last 10 years. At 27 and 25, respectively, both Carlos and Gimenez are younger than Koulibaly who will be turning 30 next June.
