The 27-year-old Brazilian midfielder is currently on a season-long loan at Bayern Munich who are expected to let him go back to the Camp Nou at the end of the campaign.

Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham and Arsenal are all reported to be making efforts to secure the loan signing of Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona in the summer transfer window.

Coutinho is currently on a season-long loan at Bayern Munich but is expected to report back at the Camp Nou upon the conclusion of the ongoing season. The Bundesliga leaders are reportedly reluctant to extend his stay in Germany as they remain unwilling to meet Barcelona’s £109m valuation of the playmaker.

Sky Sport reports that the Premier League quartet believes that Barca are willing to offload the playmaker after he failed to impress during his one-and-a-half-year stay at the Camp Nou before securing a loan move to the Allianz Arena last August.

Why Coutinho’s dream move to Barca has turned sour?

Given the fact that it’s been only two years since the former Liverpool midfielder secured a £105m move to Barca, it is hard to decipher why so much has gone wrong so quickly for Coutinho.

Upon his arrival at the Camp Nou in January 2018, Coutinho was expected to fill the role left vacant by Andres Iniesta, who left the club six months later. It was expected back then that either the midfielder would play on the tip of Barcelona’s three-man midfield or he’d be shifted to the left.

His first six months in Spanish football went according to the plan as Coutinho scored 10 goals and provided six assists for a Barca side that went on to win the double of La Liga and Copa del Rey in the 2018/19 campaign.

The following season proved to be his undoing in Catalonia as Coutinho never looked comfortable in a side that had big names of the likes of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, and Gerard Pique.

His unimpressive performances convinced his team to spend big on Antoine Griezmann last summer, with the 27-year-old leaving the Camp Nou just 1 ½ year after becoming the club’s most expensive signing in history.

How has Coutinho performed at Bayern Munich?

Prior to his arrival in Bundesliga last August, the Brazilian maestro had spearheaded his nation’s victory in last summer’s Copa America at home turf.

His numbers for Hollywood FC paints the picture of a player who has done really well in his first season, with Coutinho scoring 8 goals and providing 6 assists in the currently suspended campaign. Dig a little deeper, however, and the truth becomes clear.

Of all the goals the Brazilian has managed since he arrived in Munich, only two came in the three months before the cancelation of football. In fact, excluding his brace against Hoffenheim at the end of February, the 27-year-old has made only one goal-scoring contribution since the middle of December.
