Frank Lampard furious over Chelsea’s fixture congestion

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard slams Premier League fixture schedule as his side play twice in 48 hours.

The Blues will face Arsenal on Saturday and then play again on Monday against Aston Villa as English top-flight season enters into the festive period. Frank Lampard, while speaking to the press, hits out at fixture list, saying that their title rivals have more time in-between their festive matches.

“It’s two games in two days, 48 hours. I’m not trying to be clever, it’s an important point for us because there are other teams that are challenging at the top of the league that play two games in three days.” Lampard added.

“Manchester United, Tottenham, Liverpool play two games in three or four days. It’s counterproductive for the quality of the Premier League, it’s a risk for players if they are going to play both games at top-end elite sport, and everybody knows that.”

After back-to-back defeats against Everton and Wolves, Chelsea stamped their authority last weekend with a comprehensive 3-0 win over West Ham United. A win at the Emirates will be all Lampard will be looking for as his side is sitting at fifth, six points off leaders Liverpool.
