Gary Neville warns Solskjaer, Klopp wants Ajax defender, and Setien compares Messi to Michael Jordan

While speaking on The Gary Neville podcast, the Manchester United legend warned the club’s current manager that the Red Devils are in a desperate position.

Gary Neville has warned Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that the situation at Manchester United is ‘getting worse’ after the Red Devils fell to their 3rd defeat of the Premier League season on Sunday.

The Old Trafford outfit’s defeat to Arsenal meant that they have failed to win any of their first four home games in a top-flight season for the first time since 1972 – the year United finished 18th despite having the likes of George Best and Denis Law in their side.

United’s current side also has stars on the teamsheet, including World Cup winner Paul Pogba, MBE Marcus Rashford, the most expensive defender in history in Harry Maguire and the club’s most expensive forward signing in Anthony Martial.

But just like their predecessors that started the season on an extremely low note almost half-a-century ago, the existing United side is also sitting at the wrong end of the table, with Neville warning his former teammate Solskjaer that he has to be ‘selfish’ and make some ‘tough decisions’.

Top News 2: Jurgen Klopp wants Ajax defender

Jurgen Klopp wants Ajax defender Perr Schuurs

Following the season-ending injury of Virgil Van Dijk, the Liverpool manager has been forced to pursue the signature of the 6’3’’ tall Ajax centre-back.

Liverpool have set their sights on Ajax centre-back Perr Schuurs after the Dutch youngster impressed during his side’s 1-0 loss to Reds in the Champions League, per The Mirror.

The 20-year-old centre-back was on trial at Anfield three years ago but the Merseyside outfit decided against giving him a contract. He has since then went on to become a regular in the highly-rated Ajax side and has emerged as one of the best young prospects in European football.

Liverpool’s pursuit of Schurrs won’t raise any eyebrows given the defensive crisis the Reds are facing following the season-ending injury of Virgil Van Dijk. The 28-year-old injured his ligament in a clash with Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford and had to undergo surgery to repair the damage.

Aside from the injury suffered by the Dutchman, the absences of Joel Matip and Fabinho in recent weeks has further aggravated the problem for Klopp, who had to select 23-year-old Nathaniel Philips for his side’s Saturday’s 2-1 victory over West Ham.

Top News 3: Ex-Barcelona manager Quique Setien compares Lionel Messi to Michael Jordan

The former Real Betis manager took over the reins of Barcelona in January and was sacked after the club’s 8-2 thrashing by Bayern Munich in August.

Former Barcelona manager Quique Setien has compared Lionel Messi to Michael Jordan before adding that the Argentina international is ‘not easy to manage’.

Setien took over the reins of Barca in January and was sacked after their 8-2 thrashing by Bayern Munich in the Champions League eight months later. His spell at the club also saw the Catalan outfit surrender their excellent early-season form to see Real Madrid win La Liga title.

“It’s true that there are players that are not easy to manage, among them, Leo [Messi],” Setien told El Pais newspaper. “It’s difficult when someone is accustomed to winning.”

He added: “There’s another facet beyond just the player and it’s more difficult to manage. Much more difficult. It’s something inherent in many athletes that can be seen in the Michael Jordan documentary [“The Last Dance”]. You see things you don’t expect.”
