Giroud reveals reasons behind Chelsea extension, Kane move ‘a real possibility’ for Manchester United and more

The towering forward said that he still holds ambitions of playing at the highest levels and can’t wait to show his team-mates and coach his commitment to the cause.

Olivier Giroud joined Chelsea in 2018 following a 6-year spell at Arsenal and has gone on to represent the Blues on 49 league occasion, chipping in with 7 goals. While his numbers are relatively meagre to say the least, he is still being held in high regard by the club and that is why he was rewarded with a one-year contract extension in May.

He was quick to express his gratitude and satisfaction to the London giants, while also revealing his eagerness and determination to fight for his place and help the club compete for the highest domestic and European honours.

“In football, as in life itself, you have to take every chance you get, I simply did that and showed everyone at the club that they can still believe in me. I am glad things worked out like they did, as I am very happy in this city, and my family is too,” he spoke to Chelsea’s official website.

The former Tottenham coach has little hopes that Harry Kane will see out his whole career in London, citing his ambitions as a major factor as to why he will be seeking a switch to a more successful side sooner rather than later.

At 26 years of age, Kane has spent a large chunk of his career at Spurs, barring several loan spells, and has already etched himself in club and league folklore, while his haul of 136 league strikes in 198 appearances speaks volumes of his quality.

But a former Tottenham boss can understand if the England star expresses interest in switching sides in search for more silverware to correspond to his prolific goalscoring abilities, with Manchester United being mentioned as the next destination for the 2016 and 2018 Premier League Golden Boot winner.

“We all want to see Harry stay, and I say this for every Spurs supporter. He identifies himself deeply with the club but a career doesn’t last forever and I will understand if he wants to go to a club who can match his ambitions. It might happen this year, it might happen next year. He’s one of the best and it’s only natural that the footballing giants will come knocking,” he explained to talkSPORT.

The Rojiblancos on-loan winger is not expecting the return of La Liga to be much pleasant as he admits that having the fans at the stadium is what really drives the players forward.

Yannick Carrasco said playing at an empty stadium will present a challenge in itself for La Liga as Atletico Madrid and the rest of the Spanish clubs step up their preparations.

The Spanish top flight was officially confirmed to return on June 11 after the suspension due to the ongoing pandemic. Sevilla and Real Betis will have the opening honors, while Carrasco’s Atleti will be in for a tough away fixture against Athletic Bilbao.

Speaking via Atletico Madrid’s Twitter channel, the on-loan winger shared his views regarding the ongoing club preparations for the La Liga restart: “I am just ecstatic to see everyone and be able to train with the whole group again. Things are looking well set for us to enter the end of the season in the best possible shape.”

“We are working hard, have a good programme and feel more than ready for the upcoming challenges. The fans will be sorely missed, that I can say for sure, it will not be the same but we will try to put on a show for them. We are professionals and we will do our utmost,” he added.
