After agreeing a £37m deal in February, the 26-year-old winger will move to the Stamford Bridge stadium this summer.

Chelsea’s latest signing Hakim Ziyech hopes to convince his new club to sign his fellow Ajax teammate Andre Onana in the summer transfer window.

The Blues made the 26-year-old their first signing in more than three transfer windows after their one-and-a-half-year transfer ban was reduced by the Court of Arbitration for Sport in December.

Daily Mail has reported that the Moroccan forward is close friends with Ajax goalkeeper, who is reportedly on the transfer wish-list of Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho.

It is also claimed that after spending five years in the Eredivisie with the Dutch giants, Cameroon international Onana wants to move to the Premier League at the end of this season.

Why a move for Onana makes sense for Chelsea?

Onana wants a Premier League move in the summer

After Kepa Arrizzabalaga fell out of favor with boss Frank Lampard, a move for Onana makes sense for the Blues if the rift between their first-choice goalkeeper and manager shows no signs of abating in the coming months.

Lampard is reportedly unhappy with the lax attitude of the Spaniard which has cost the Blues several points in the Premier League this season. Though one couldn’t fault the Chelsea boss for his attitude towards the ex-Bilbao shot-stopper given that Kepa had the worst save percentage of any goalkeeper in the recently-suspended Premier League season.

Provided the Blues are to make their move for Onana, they’d have to move quickly given that their city rivals Spurs are also keeping tabs on the 23-year-old. The former Blues’ manager Mourinho is reportedly a massive fan of the goalkeeper and wants to bring him to London in the summer.

In addition to the Portuguese’s affinity for the Cameroon international, the form of their number-one goalkeeper Hugo Lloris might also convince the Spurs’ higher-ups to sanction the money for Onana’s signature. The France international has a habit of making several high-profile errors, and Mourinho wants to bring in a goalkeeper that could give him serious competition for his place in the Spurs starting XI.
