‘He made a mistake leaving in the first place’ – Giovane Elber warns Barca against re-signing Neymar

Neymar’s compatriot and former fellow striker Giovane Elber has suggested that Barcelona should strongly consider against bringing the Brazilian star back to Camp Nou, deeming his decision to join Paris Saint-Germain in 2017 as highly questionable.

The mercurial Brazilian swapped Catalonia for Paris in 2017 in acrimonious circumstances that involved a record-breaking €222 million (£198m) deal. He has since been involved in 52 Ligue 1 matches, scoring 47 goals.

Throughout his stay in France, he has been linked numerous times with a return to Barcelona, but so far nothing has materialized. Speaking to Cadena Serformer Bayern Munich attacker Giovane Elber added why he’s against this move: “He said his goal is to become the best, but how could he leave for PSG if he wanted that? He can’t achieve it there.”

“In order to be considered the best, you have to win the Champions League and that’s something you can do at Barcelona or Real Madrid, not at PSG,” he added.

The World Cup-winning Frenchman has had a hard time hitting top form upon his return to the Theater of Dreams, and one fellow countryman believes his career would be best suited if he moved on to pastures new, preferably to Santiago Bernabéu.

Former Bordeaux and Milan forward Christophe Dugarry said Paul Pogba can reach the top if he joins Real Madrid. The Manchester United midfield star has had a mixed spell at Old Trafford so far, while transfer talk never seems far away.

Los Blancos have been linked with an audacious summer swoop for Pogba and Dugarry can certainly see the connection: “Madrid’s squad is getting a bit old, it’s evident. It has some issues breaking the lines and creating. Pogba is the answer to all of their midfield problems and is ideal for them,” he explained to RMC Sport.

“Another year has gone by, Paul has been unlucky with all of his injuries and his team has also let him down with their performances, we have to be honest. I think he can regain that spark under the mentorship of Zidane, no doubt about that.”
