How Real Madrid could lineup against Atletico Madrid

Here’s how Real Madrid are expected to line up against high-flying Atletico Madrid in La Liga on Saturday.

How Real Madrid could lineup against Atletico Madrid

After securing back-to-back crucial victories over Sevilla in La Liga and Borussia Monchengladbach in the Champions League, Zinedine Zidane’s side are coming into this game with regained confidence.

Real Madrid will be aiming to shorten the gap with their Saturday’s hosts Atletico Madrid when both sides clash late Saturday night.

Diego Simeone’s side have enjoyed a dream start to the 2020/21 campaign, sitting six points clear of their cross-city rivals at the top of La Liga. What makes their start even more impressive is that Atletico have played one game fewer than Real.

Los Blancos, meanwhile, seemed to have turned a corner after their average early-season form put them at a considerable risk of suffering elimination in the Champions League group stages. They have recorded back-to-back victories and now look on track both domestically and in Europe.

However, if they are to make the most of the recent uptick in their form, Real will have to do it without the likes of Eden Hazard (muscle injury) and Luka Jovic (adductor). Fede Valverde, who returned to training early this week, remains a doubt for this game alongside Martin Odegaard and Mariano Diaz.

The Uruguay international is therefore expected to start the game on the bench, with Toni Kroos, who deputized in his absence in the middle of Real's midfield, expected to form a partnership with Luka Modric in midfield.

Here’s how Real Madrid are expected to line up on Saturday:

Courtois; Carvajal, Varane, Ramos, Mendy; Casemiro, Modric, Kroos; Asensio, Benzema, Vinicius
