How will Chelsea line up today against Atletico Madrid

  • Chelsea will be aiming to extend their new manager’s unbeaten run as the Blues’ boss when they meet Atletico Madrid on Tuesday
  • The Blues are yet to lose a game since the former PSG and Borussia Dortmund manager replaced Frank Lampard last month
  • They have won five of the seven games they have played under the German’s tutelage, drawing the other two

Here’s how will Chelsea line up today against Atletico Madrid:

Defense

Thiago Silva remains unavailable for the home side on Tuesday. The former PSG centre-back hasn’t recovered from the muscle injury he picked up while stretching his right leg during his side’s 1-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month.

His absence leaves Tuchel with little options but to go with the centre-back pairing of Kurt Zouma and Antonio Rudiger on Tuesday, with Cesar Azpilicueta and Reece James marshaling the full-back sports and summer signing Eduoard Mendy starting in the Blues goal.

Midfield

The Blues’ midfield is expected to pick itself on Tuesday due to the side’s recent performances as well as the injury concerns ahead of Tuesday. N’Golo Kante will play in his usual role at the defensive midfield department, with both Jorginho and Marcus Alonso on either sides of the Frenchman.

Alonso’s inclusion in such a high-stakes game couldn’t have been foreseen back when Lampard was still at the helm. However, the Englishman’s departure from the scene created an opening which the Spaniard has fully grasped and will be expected to make the most of on Tuesday.

Attack

With Kai Havertz and Christian Pulisic both doubts, Mason Mount and Timo Werner are expected to start from the first whistle vs Atletico Madrid. Olivier Giroud, though, is expected to watch from the bench as the fit-again Tammy Abraham leads the Blues’ attack force.

Possible Chelsea Starting XI Vs Atletico Madrid: Mendy; Azpilicueta, Zouma, Rudiger; James, Kante, Jorginho, Alonso; Mount, Abraham, Werner
