The Barcelona midfielder, who has also played for the likes of Bayern Munich in his trophy-laden career, previously played under the current Inter Milan boss at Juventus.

Inter Milan manager Antonio Conte wants the club to sign Barcelona midfielder Arturo Vidal in the January transfer window, reports Marca (via the Daily Mail).

Conte, currently at Inter Milan, spent three seasons managing Vidal at Juventus as the pair won three Serie A and two Supercoppa titles.

His arrival at the club was followed by Inter signing the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez from Manchester United to give the manager the tools to weaken Juventus’ grip at Serie A.

Inter have responded well to his tactics as the club currently sits 2nd in the Serie A table, just one point behind league the Old Lady.

More than a year after leaving his role at Chelsea, Conte took charge at the San Siro in the summer and has enjoyed a promising start at the side.

The former Juventus manager is a huge fan of the combative Chilean midfielder and believed that his addition to the squad will allow the Nerazzurri to compete on all fronts.

Vidal has been an integral part of the Barcelona squad occupying the spot in La Liga, with the 32-year-old midfielder scoring 3 goals in 77league appearances for the club

However, despite his performances at the club, Vidal has never been a fan of the Barcelona manager, as suggested by the lack of opportunities available to him at the club.

Of the 11 appearances that Vidal has made for Barca in all competition this season, only five of those have seen the Chilean featuring in the club’s starting XI, a subtle indication of Ernesto Valverde’s lack of trust in the midfielder.

Vidal has previously praised Conte

Speaking about his relationship with the former Juventus manager during the time when both of them were in Turin, Vidal praised the Italian for his man-management.

‘I lived wonderful moments with Antonio Conte,’ Vidal has previously said on the three-year spell the pair jointly had at the club between 2011 and 2014. ‘My leap in quality was thanks to him.

‘In football, the most important thing is confidence and when a coach of that level gives you it, you improve a lot.’

Still, while it looks like that Vidal would love a return to Italy, provided he gets some assurances for game time, it remains to be seen whether Barca would let him leave in January.

The reigning La Liga champions have their eyes set on Champions League title this season, and the presence of Vidal, even if on the bench, adds a new dimension to their passing style. So it seems highly unlikely for the Catalan side to allow the Chilean to leave Camp Nou in January.
