Koeman slams VAR after El Clasico loss, Lampard questions Maguire tackle, and Antonio holds Man City

Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman blames Video Assistant Referee for El Clasico defeat after Real Madrid were handed a penalty in the second half.

The visitors started the game brightly and Federico Valverde put them ahead inside five minutes as he smashed the net after receiving a pass from Karim Benzema. Three minutes later, Barcelona’s Ansu Fati restored parity, becoming the youngest player to score in El Clasico.

The turning point of the match came after the hour mark when a lengthy VAR check awarded Los Blancos a penalty following Clement Lenglet’s shirt pull challenge on Sergio Ramos in the box. The home side had two penalty shouts turned down by VAR.

Ronald Koeman was quick to criticize VAR after his side conceded the third goal right at the death as substitute Luka Modric squeezed the ball into the net while rounding off goalkeeper Neto.

“I don’t understand VAR, I think it is only used to make decisions against Barca. You always get shirt tugs like that in the area and I think Ramos makes a foul on Lenglet first. There’s a tug of the shirt, but not enough to make him fall behind as he did. For me, it’s not a penalty.”

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard says his team should have a penalty after Saturday’s goalless draw at Old Trafford.

Chelsea kept back-to-back clean sheets after a long time as summer signing Edouard Mendy made a couple of good saves including Marcus Rashford’s goal-bound shot in the dying minutes of the game.

However, Blues’ boss Frank Lampard wasn’t happy with Harry Maguire’s challenge on Chelsea skipper Cesar Azpilicueta in the first half as the English man denied Azpi from heading the ball by tightly wrapping the Spanish defender with his left arm.

VAR had a look at the incident but United and Maguire escaped punishment. “I thought it was a clear penalty. Holding is allowed, but headlocks aren’t. Obviously, I didn’t see it at the time from where I’m standing. They are hard calls for referees on the pitch, but the VAR was very quick to dismiss it in my opinion.” Lampard commented after the match.

After the draw, United remain in the bottom half but the Red Devils escaped third successive home defeat as Ole’s men prepare for midweek’s Champions League clash with RB Leipzig. On the other hand, Chelsea will travel to Russia for CL tie against Krasnodar.

Man City registered only one win in last four PL matches
Man City registered only one win in last four PL matches

Manchester City’s disappointing start to Premier League season continues after a 1-1 draw against West Ham United.

After producing a near ‘perfect’ performance against FC Porto in UEFA Champions League, Manchester City once again dropped points in the league against in-form West Ham United at London Stadium.

The Hammers’ top-scorer Michail Antonio put the home side ahead in the 18th-minute with a spectacular overhead volley from Vladimir Coufal’s cross.

Pep Guardiola’s men were without their star asset Kevin De Bruyne who could only make it to the bench after coming back from injury, however, Sergio Aguero started at the front after scoring from the penalty spot in mid-week against Porto.

But the Argentinean was substituted at half-time due to leg injury, paving way for Phil Foden who equalized six minutes after coming from the bench with a low corner finish from Joao Cancelo’s cross. City bossed possession after that and sent Kevin De Bruyne but the Belgian couldn’t find the winner for 12th-placed Manchester City.
