Barcelona and Argentina superstar Lionel Messi is the best paid La Liga footballer in 2021, with the 33-year-old earning a whopping €72m per year.
Messi earns almost twice as much as the 2nd highest paid La Liga player in 2021, his teammate Antoine Griezmann who reportedly rakes in €34m a year or €655,000 per week, thereby becoming one of the La Liga highest paid players per week in 2021. Though his form doesn’t justify Griezmann’s wages.
Barcelona’s dominance on the wage list is broken by their fierce rivals Real Madrid, who fork out €32m a year on the salary of Eden Hazard. Repeated injuries have so far prevented his Los Blancos career from taking off but haven’t stopped the Belgian from enjoying a sweet payday at the end of every week.
His teammate Sergio Ramos, who is the only defender in the list, is currently the fourth highest paid player in the Spanish top flight. The Spaniard is one of the best defenders of his generation and therefore deserves every penny of the €520,000 that Zinedine Zidane’s side pay him every week.
Just behind Ramos in the salary list is former Tottenham and current Los Blancos midfielder Luka Modric. The Croatian has been the lynchpin of Madrid’s midfielder for nearly a decade, and like Ramos, doesn’t cause any concern in Madrid’s camp by earning an astronomical weekly salary of €435,000.
