The French defender sustained a knee injury while playing against Brighton in August and was subsequently ruled out of action for a number of months.

Aymeric Laporte has given Manchester City a huge boost by stating that he is eyeing a return to the football pitch within the next six to eight weeks.

The 25-year-old center back suffered a knee injury during his side’s convincing 4-0 victory over Brighton during Manchester City’s 4th game of the Premier League season.

His resulting absence from the squad led to the shortage of defensive options at the club, with fellow center-backs Nicolas Otamendi and John Stones unable to replicate the Frenchman’s form.

However, now that Laporte has revealed that he intends to return to action within the next two months, City fans could hope to see the solidity return to their back four.

In an interview with The National, the center-back, who underwent surgery on his knee at the start of September, provided an update on when he expects to be back in action.

“[My recovery] is going very well,” he said.  “Still I need time but I hope as soon as possible I can come back and play with my teammates.

“I can’t say when exactly but more or less one month-and-a-half to two months.”

Prior to the French defender setting a potential date on his return, DPT and owner of 3CBPerformance Dr. Rajpal Brar had explained that Laporte was fortunate to undergo a surgery that repaired his meniscus and didn’t remove the damaged cartilage

In his YouTube video, the sports injury professional had claimed that the 25-year-old was extremely fortunate to have his injury repaired, as it might allow him to play football with little complications.

How big a loss has Laporte been for Manchester City?

Since signing from Athletic Bilbao in January 2018, the Frenchman was an integral part of the squad that lifted five trophies during the period before his knee injury.

During the time that he was fit for selection, Laporte made 130 clearances for the club, 20 more than Nicolas Otamendi who was the next name on that list.

The defender also won more headers in the one-and-a-half season for City (112) than the likes of Kyle Walker (72), Stones (71) and Otamendi (61).

He also led the way when it came to interceptions, as the left central-defender intercepted the ball 58 times, with Fernandino coming the closest with 54 interceptions.

Throw into the mix the fact that he made the joint-most blocks for Man City last season, along with Vincent Kompany, and the statistics paint a fairly accurate picture of how much the reigning Premier League champions have missed the hard work and industry of the 25-year-old.
