Three transfers that may be announced in coming weeks for Chelsea
According to many news outlets, the Blues have agreed to personal terms with Leicester City’s left-back Ben Chilwell for €50m.
Chelsea are linked with 23-year-old since months and the England international remained the top-priority for Frank Lampard.
Leicester refused to sell Chilwell in July when their manager Brendan Rogers pointed out in media that the left-back is not for sale. However, the dynamics changed when the Foxes missed on Champions League qualification and Chelsea finished fourth in Premier League.
Marina Granovskaia also scouted Ajax’s Tagliafico and Real Madrid loanee Sergio Reguilón but Lampard wanted Premier League proven Chilwell.
If Chelsea sign Chilwell, they have to offload Marcos Alonso or Emerson Palmieri, with latter edging closer to Serie A as Inter Milan are interested in the Italian left-back.
Goalkeeping is an area where Frank Lampard would definitely want to improve and it seems 6’ 2” Senegalese is the man to lead Chelsea’s defense from next season.
Mendy helped Rennes to qualify for Champions League with 9 clean sheets in 24 Ligue 1 appearances, while conceded 31 times during the process.
Although the 28-year-old has a contract with French outfit until 2023, but Rennes can cash-in during COVID-19 financial crisis.
Chelsea are also keeping tabs on Burnley’s Nick Pope, Man United’s Dean Henderson and Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak but Marina Granovskaia may come up with a surprise deal just like she did with Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Blues are closing in agreeing on a fee for Bayer Leverkusen Kai Havertz as the German playmaker pushing for a move to Stamford Bridge.
Bayer Leverkusen didn’t agree to Chelsea’s initial bid of €65m for the 21-year-old made earlier this week but the two clubs are now closing on agreeing at encouraging price.
German outfit wanted €100m for in-demand Havertz but Chelsea offered lucrative bonuses and add-ons in Wednesday’s meeting and Die Werkself seems satisfied with the offer, reports the Guardian.
Frank Lampard has already strengthened Chelsea attack by signing Ajax’s Hakim Ziyech and RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner, while the addition of Kai Havertz will certainly increase their chances of challenging for Premier League title.
European giants including Real Madrid and Bayern Munich were also linked with Havertz but unable to meet the price tag of German sensation and Chelsea seems the only club who could afford the versatile winger.
