Leeds United set to target former PSG striker, Chelsea open transfer talks with midfielder and more

After 16 years away from the English top-flight, the Yorkshire club gained promotion to the Premier League from the Championship over the weekend.

Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani has claimed that the Premier League newcomers would try and sign former PSG striker Edinson Cavani in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The Whites were promoted to the Premier League over the weekend after they spent almost two decades in the backwaters of the English Championship and League One.

Leeds tried their best to lure Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Yorkshire in January – he moved to AC Milan instead – and are now eyeing a summer move for the free agent Cavani. The 33-year-old has left PSG after spending seven seasons and scoring 138 times in 200 appearances for the Parisiens.

Radrizzaani told Sky Sports Italia that he thinks Cavani would do well in the Premier League given his physicality, before admitting that he’s yet to talk about the Uruguayan with Marcelo Bielsa.

The Stamford Bridge residents are keen to beat Bayern Munich and Real Madrid to the signing of the Bayer Leverkusen forward in the summer transfer window.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has told club’s transfer guru Marina Granovskaia to complete the transfer of Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz at any cost.

Havertz was in the form of his life for Bayer Leverkusen in the recently concluded Bundesliga campaign as he scored 12 goals in 29 league starts for the Bayer Arena residents.

German news publication Bild reports that the 21-year-old, who has also attracted interest from Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, is the top transfer target for the Russian billionaire.

Chelsea’s potential success in clinching the signature of the Germany international will make Havertz the third high-profile signing the Blues would have completed this season, as the Stamford Bridge residents have already brought in Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner from Ajax and RB Leipzig, respectively.

Top News 3: Latest on Newcastle United takeover

The Public Investment fund that is trying to buy Magpies is owned by the Saudi state and chaired by controversial Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Newcastle United aren’t sure what the future holds for the club and are planning for another season under owner Mike Ashley with Steve Bruce continuing as their manager.

Daily Mirror reports that the latest roadblock in the way of the proposed Saudi takeover of the club has muddied the situation and dashed the club’s manager’s hopes of getting ‘clarity’ regarding the situation ahead of next season.

The latest impediment in the takeover came last week when a Saudi court permanently banned Premier League’s overseas right holder beIN Sports from broadcasting in the country.

It left egg on the face of English top-flight’s chief executive Richard Masters who had stated in June that Saudis would ‘’allow sports holders to protect their rights” in the country.
