The 22-year-old English defender started for the Reds during their 1-0 FA Cup third-round victory over fierce rivals Everton last weekend.

Liverpool defender Nat Phillips is set to be loaned out to Stuttgart, with the English defender set to spend the remainder of the season in the 2nd tier of German football.

The center-back spent the first six months of the season with the 2.Bundesliga club, but was recalled by Jurgen Klopp to feature against Everton in the third round of FA Cup.

Phillips proved that decision right with his performance as a Curtis Jones goal was enough for the Reds to stretch their unbeaten run at home against the Blues to over 2 decades.

However, after being named on the bench in their Saturday’s victory at Tottenham, the 22-year-old is set to head back to the side where he spent the first half of this season.

The English defender spent the first half of football in 2.Bundesliga where he made 11 games for Thomas Hitzlsperger’s side before Christmas.

His performances for the German club were enough to convince Klopp who recalled Phillips following a mid-season injury crisis that struck the Merseyside club.

Injuries suffered by Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip forced their German boss to recall the defender from the productive loan spell he was having in 2.Bundesliga.

However, with the Reds confident that Lovren and Matip weren’t out for as long as initially feared, they stuck a deal with Stuttgart’s director Sven Mislintat.

The former Arsenal head scout agreed a deal with the European champions that the return of the injured duo would permit them to send Phillips back out on loan this month.

Speaking on Friday ahead of his team’s Saturday’s visit to the Tottenham Hotspur stadium, the German manager gave his take on future plans he had in mind about the 22-year-old.

Klopp said: “First of all it is just nice to have him back and around again because he is such an exceptional person.

“He got a lot of interesting experience in my city where I was born [Stuttgart].

I know the people there and they can be kind of strange, but he enjoyed it a lot. Probably he will go back, but we have to see exactly.”

Phillips might not be the only Liverpool youngster who could leave Anfield this month with Reds also facing a decision over the future of midfielder Pedro Chirivella.
