The 26year-old Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker injured his calf midway through the 1st half during his side’s Premier League opener against Norwich at Anfield .

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that goalkeeper Alisson Becker won’t be available for selection for his side’s UEFA Cup tie against Chelsea after the Brazilian suffered a calf injury on Friday evening. The 26-year-old was in the goal posts for Liverpool as they kicked off their Premier League season with a fine 4-1 win against recently promoted Norwich City side.

However, after making a string of decent saves in the opening half-hour, Alisson fell prey to a calf injury after appearing to kick the ground in an attempt to take a goal kick for the home side.

The resulting injury forced the Liverpool goalkeeper to come off the pitch after just 36 minutes on the clock, with new signing Adrian taking his place between the sticks.

Speaking after the game, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp confirmed that at the very least, the goalkeeper won’t be a part of the Liverpool squad that will face Chelsea next Wednesday.

“Wednesday [in the Super Cup], he will not play – with all my experience, I can say that already. He is injured, for sure, so we have to see how much.” Klopp bemoaned in his post-match press conference.

Although Klopp was tight-lipped regarding the severity of the injury and how long it would take for the Brazilian to get back on the pitch, he still sounded pessimistic about the chances.

“There is actually nothing bad to say about the game apart from Ali’s injury. That is, of course, not good for us, but we have to see how serious it is and then we have to deal with it. “It’s the calf and that’s it. He couldn’t carry on, that’s not a good sign. We have to see.”

Alisson Becker has injured himself in the first game of the new season spells more trouble for Liverpool. Adrian, who only signed for Liverpool last Monday.

In the last six months of 2018/19 season, Adrian, despite having been playing for a couple of years, has not played a single ball.

In fact, the last time Adrian played a competitive fixture before Monday’s stint against Norwich was at the tail-end of January 2019 in a 4-2 defeat at the hands of AFC Wimbledon.

Therefore, while Jurgen Klopp would no doubt be putting on a brave face, Liverpool’s chances of competing in all competitions will be severely hampered if Alisson injury rules him out for a lengthy term on the sidelines.
