The 6-time European Champions will be taking part in the FIFA Club World Cup in Qatar in the same week when their Carabao Cup quarter-final tie is expected to be held.

Liverpool are facing fixture chaos as the most likely date for their quarter-final tie in this year’s Carabao Cup will most likely clash with their FIFA Club World Cup roster.

Jurgen Klopp’s men twice came back from a 2-goal deficit to beat a sorry Arsenal side on penalties after a 10-goal thriller at Anfield on Wednesday night.

However, while jubilant Liverpool fans were busy celebrating their team’s victory, their manager was thinking about the Reds’ piling fixture list.

The German boss threatened the Football Association that his team would quit the competition if they aren’t handed suitable dates – and it seems he might have to act on the threat.

It looks all but impossible for the Football Association to schedule Liverpool’s game in the cup competition in December because they already have a jam-packed fixture list for the festive month.

The 6-time European Champions will play three Premier League games and their last Champions League group game before heading to the Middle Eastern country in the mid of December.

Provided the Reds fare well in the competition, they might have to play two games in Qatar between December 15 and their Boxing Day trip to Leicester. Liverpool will then host Wolves on December 29 after which they will play Sheffield United at Anfield on January 22.

That game will be followed by the Reds taking part in the third round of the FA Cup which is likely to be held on January 5 or 6. Only then would Klopp’s side get a mid-week break during which the Football Association can schedule their Carabao-Cup quarter-final tie.

They will then have to battle fatigue to travel to London to face Tottenham at 5:30 pm on January 11. Provided the Reds get a victory in the quarter-final, the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final would take place in the immediate next mid-week, with the return leg the week after.

Klopp was unequivocal in his assertion that if a suitable date isn’t found for his Liverpool in the next round of Carabao Cup, his side won’t be able to take part in the resulting fixture.

“I’ve said it already, Fifa told us the Club World Cup will be there (Qatar) and we have to come there and we will do,” Klopp said after managing his team to penalty-shootout victory over the Gunners.

“The Carabao Cup, what we did tonight, if they don’t find an appropriate place for us, not 3 am on Christmas Day, then we don’t play it.

They have to make that decision. You have to think about these things. If you have a fixture list where one team cannot be part of all the games, then you have to think about the fixture list.

“Hopefully it starts now. We will not be the victim of this problem.”
