The reigning Premier League Champions’ injury crisis has gone from bad to worse following injuries to Diogo Jota and Kostas Tsimikas over the past month.
Summer signing Diogo Jota is set to miss around two months of football after suffering a knee injury against Midtjylland in the Champions League last week.
The 24-year-old Portugal international, who joined Liverpool from Wolves in a £41m deal in the summer, has proved to be an excellent signing for the Merseyside outfit. He was one of the Reds’ best performers before his injury and had managed 9 goals in all competitions for them.
Jota is currently being joined on the sidelines by former Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara. The 29-year-old midfielder also joined Liverpool over the summer, but repeated injuries haven’t allowed him to perform at his best. Liverpool Echo reports that he’ll be back in action next month.
Joining the injured duo on the treatment table are Xherdan Shaqiri and Kostas Tsimikas. Swiss international Shaqiri has been absent from Jurgen Klopp’s side’s matchday squads since picking up a muscle injury while on national team duty with Switzerland.
The former Stoke City winger was absent from the Reds’ squad that drew with Fulham on Sunday and isn’t expected to return anytime soon. Tsimikas, meanwhile, has endured a torrid spell since joining Liverpool in August from Olympiakos and won’t return to action until late January/early February.
