After allowing Dejan Lovren to leave for Russian champions Zenit Saint Petersburg, the Reds are in the transfer market for a new center-back.
The reigning Premier League champions are in the transfer market for a new center-back after allowing Dejan Lovren to depart for Russian champions Zenit Saint Petersburg late last month.
Jurgen Klopp’s side already have a first-choice defensive pairing in Virgil Van Dijk and Joe Gomez but do not have enough options on the bench. Lovren’s departure to Russia has left Joel Matip as the only senior center-back that Klopp could turn to in case of an injury to either Van Dijk or Gomez.
The Reds were previously linked with Burnley center-half Ben White but are reportedly put-off by The Clarets’ €40m valuation of the defender. Rudiger could prove to be a cheaper alternative as Chelsea are reportedly looking to sell the German to raise funds for new signings.
Guendouzi has fallen out of favor with the Gunners higher-ups after clashing with Brighton players during Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat to the Seagulls in June.
His off-the-pitch antics haven’t been any better as well as Mikel Arteta is determined to cash-in on the 21-year-old to raise funds for new signings in a busy transfer window for the Gunners.
The defensive midfielder’s troubles at Arsenal haven’t put off his potential suitors though as both Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly keeping tabs on the Frenchman.

Barcelona are worried about the fitness of Lionel Messi after the Argentine superstar missed the team’s training after picking up an ankle injury during their 3-1 victory over Napoli on the weekend, as per Spanish outlet Cope.
Messi was forced to watch from the sidelines as Quique Setien put his Barca teammates through their paces ahead of the side’s crunch Champions League quarter-final clash with Bayern Munich.
The 33-year-old injured his ankle after he deliberately put his foot between Kalidou Koulibaly and the ball as the Senegalese was attempting to clear the ball. Koulibaly inadvertently caught the ankle of Messi who immediately went to the floor as the referee awarded Barca a deserved penalty kick
He got back to his feet later on and played the whole of second-half as Barca booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. It, therefore, seems plausible that the Argentine would be fit to be in Barcelona’s starting XI on Friday.
