The reigning European Champions are set to take part in the FIFA Club World Cup in Qatar in December, merely a day after their Carabao Cup quarter-final clash with Aston Villa.

Liverpool have confirmed the 23-man squad that will travel to Qatar to take part in the Club World Cup later this month, as the Reds look to win a trophy they have never made their own in history.

Jurgen Klopp’s side qualified for the tournament after winning the Champions League last season, in which they will face regional champions from across the globe.

There were reports that Klopp would be forced to make changes to his squad as Liverpool’s trip to Qatar will come amid a busy festive schedule in the Premier League.

However, with the Reds sitting 11 points clear at the top of the Premier League table, the German manager has opted to name a full-strength squad for the competition.

Defender Joel Matip and defensive midfielder Fabinho were unable to see their names on the list as they still recover from their respective injuries.

What is perhaps more surprising is the presence of youth in the contingent that will board the flight to Qatar less than 24-hours after Liverpool play Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup quarter-final.

Among the youngsters who will be a part of Liverpool’s mid-season trip to Qatar are the likes of Rhian Brewster, Harvey Elliot, Curtis Jones, and Neco Williams.

The fact that Jurgen Klopp’s side will kick off their first game in Club World Cup merely 24 hours after their domestic fixture makes it likely that some of the youngsters who are traveling with the squad will do so after playing against Villa a day earlier.

However, with Jurgen Klopp promising to do everything to bring the trophy home, it can be expected that none of the young-guns will get much game time in Qatar if Liverpool win their first game to qualify for the final.

The Reds will play two games in the tournament, with their first game scheduled for December 18 and the second three days later, on Saturday, December 21.

The schedule of the tournament is such that Jurgen Klopp’s men will have to play fixtures on both these dates whether or not they manage to win their opening game in the tournament.

Divock Origi, Sadio Mane, and Xherdan Shaqiri, three players who were on the scoresheet yesterday, are unsurprisingly the part of the 23-man team nominated earlier today.

Liverpool FIFA Club World Cup squad: Alisson, Van Dijk, Wijnaldum, Lovren, Milner, Keita, Firmino, Mane, Salah, Gomez, Adrian, Henderson, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Lallana, Lonergan, Shaqiri, Brewster, Robertson, Origi, Jones, Alexander-Arnold, Elliott, Williams.
