Adrian's heroics helped Liverpool to win their 2nd European trophy in the span of just 3 months. Chelsea were unlucky again in Istanbul as Tammy Abraham missed the crucial penalty and denied Lampard his first trophy as Chelsea manager.

No one was expecting such a fight from Chelsea after their humiliation at Old Trafford last Sunday. Both teams went toe-to-toe as 90-minutes were not enough to separate them. After a full time the score was 1-1 and after extra time it was 2-2.

The joy of Jurgen Klopp and his players after Adrian penalty save showed how much the victory meant for the Reds. Klopp was spot on in his pre-match press conference when he said that Chelsea players will give their 100% on the pitch.

The match had everything in it i.e; VAR intervention, disallowed goals, high pressing, counter attacks, penalties, extra time, emotions and nonetheless exciting fans.

As it happened

Vodafone Stadium was full of noise when Adrian saved Abraham's penalty. Chelsea opened the scoring through Olivier Giroud after Mane scored in the opening minutes of 2nd half. Chelsea netted the ball twice but unlucky for them as both goals were offside.

Chelsea started brilliantly as they did against United last Sunday but this time their high pressing rewarded them with an early advantage when Giroud scored from a sublime pass from Chelsea debutant Christian Pulisic.

Chelsea lead at the half time with 1-0. Klopp made a substitution straight away and Roberto Firmino was brought in replacing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. The fine run from Brazilian helped Sadio Mane to make it 1-1 just after 3 minutes into the 2nd half.

Both teams went for the win with strikes at both ends but after 90 minutes the score remained 1-1. In the 95th minute, Senegalese international scored again with a thumping finish as Kepa had no chance of stopping that. Then in the dying minutes of 1st half of extra time, Abraham was brought down by Adrian and Jorginho scored from the resulting penalty to make it 2-2.

In 2013,it was Romelu Lukaku who missed the cruicial penalty in Istanbul against Bayern Munich and yesterday it was Tammy Abraham who did the same. Chelsea has played three 3 Super Cup so far but never won the cup.

Bobby Firmino took the first penalty for Liverpool whereas Jorginho scored the first for Chelsea. Kepa moved to the right in 2 penalties but unlucky for him he couldn't save any. Chelsea youngster Mason Mount kept his cool and scored a magnificent penalty. After Salah scored the 5th penalty the pressure was all on Tammy Abraham who decided to go center as Adrian's trailing leg denied Chelsea to go on level.

Chelsea's no 9 was in tears while Liverpool players and fans were ecstatic as Liverpool grabbed their first major trophy of the season. After that Lampard and all the Chelsea players consolidated Tammy. He also posted a sorry message on Facebook with his head down.

Despite the loss, Chelsea showed a brilliant reaction and fight for 120 minutes and Lampard will take a lot of positives from this game. Next up for Chelsea is Leicester City in the Premier League as Stamford Bridge is all set to host the first league game of the season.
