Liverpool transfer news: Why Reds didn’t sign Werner, latest on Thiago Alcantara and more news

After being linked with Liverpool for the better part of the last few months, the RB Leipzig striker ended up joining Chelsea in a € 50m deal.

Jurgen Klopp wanted Liverpool to complete the signing of Timo Werner but faced opposition from club's owners who didn't sanction the money for the transfer, as per Jan Aage Fjortoft .

The former Norwegian footballer who currently works with ESPN FC made this stunning claim while replying to a Tweet claiming that the German manager now wants the Liverpool board to complete the signing of Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich.

Despite being English, European and world champions currently, the Reds don’t have the financial power that the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and PSG enjoy. That’s why the Reds’ board was disturbed over Man City’s acquittal from the two-year European ban by the Court of Arbitration of Sport.

Their precarious financial situation vis-à-vis the top clubs in Europe could be gauged from the fact that the Reds went the whole of last summer without completing a major signing, even though their fans wanted them to have greater squad depth heading into this season.

With only one-year remaining on his current deal with the Bundesliga champions, the Spanish midfielder is eager to call it a day at the Allianz Arena.

Bayern Munich and Spain midfielder Thiago has agreed personal terms with Liverpool, claims German news outlet Bild.

The 29-year-old is reportedly eager to join the reigning European champions and has stopped negotiations with Bayern over a new deal as he attempts to force a move to Anfield this summer.

However, while both the player and the Anfield outfit want the deal to happen, the Bundesliga’ champions’ valuation of the midfielder is proving to be a sticking point.

Bayern are reportedly adamant they won’t be letting the midfielder leave for less than €40m, whereas Liverpool have been thinking of offering half that amount.

Top News 3: Klopp set to hold talks with RB Leipzig’s ace

After missing out on one of the German club’s hottest prospects in Timo Werner, the Reds are determined not to repeat their mistakes this time around.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is set to hold talks with Nordi Mukiele in an attempt to lure the RB Leipzig ace to a move to Anfield.

The Reds are likely to complete the move for a defender this summer despite reports linking them to extending Dejan Lovren’s stay at the club until 2022. The departure of Neco Williams on loan could leave the Premier League champions short of defensive cover heading into next season.

It is this realization that might have forced the Anfield outfit to expedite their pursuit of Mukiele. The 22-year-old has mostly featured in at right back position in Julian Nagelsmann’s side but also has the experience of playing as a center-half.

Le 10 Sport claims that the Reds are aware of the player’s versatility and have made the necessary arrangements to hold a one-on-one between his camp and Klopp.
