Liverpool Vs Manchester United Preview: Team News, facts and probable starting lineups

Liverpool Vs Manchester United Preview
Jurgen Klopp's men have kept 6 clean sheets in last as many games in the Premier League

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would be hoping to become the first manager since Pep Guardiola to beat Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool in more than a year in the Premier League.

Liverpool would be looking to take another giant step towards a probable Premier League title when they host Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday.

Jurgen Klopp’s men are unbeaten in the Premier League in more than a year, whereas they haven’t been defeated at their home turf in almost two years.

Throw into the mix their recent league form, as the Reds have won 20 out of their 21 games this term, and the reigning European champions are huge favorites to claim a victory at the weekend.

Despite almost everything going against his side, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer won’t be losing hope given that Man United are the only side who have prevented the league leaders from winning a league game this season.

The league leaders have been handed a huge injury boost going into this Sunday’s game with both Fabinho and Joel Matip declared fit to return to the side by Klopp in his pre-match press conference on Friday.

Veteran midfielder James Milner remains a doubt for the game while Naby Keita remains sidelined alongside Dejan Lovren and Nathaniel Clyne who will also watch the game from the stands.

But even with the trio not vying for a place in Klopp’s starting XI on Sunday, the Liverpool manager still has a less-populated injury table to deal with than his counterpart from Manchester.

Solskjaer’s gamble of fielding Marcus Rashford as United chased a goal in the closing stages of their FA Cup 3rd round replay against Wolves backfired when the English striker limped off the pitch a few minutes later to put his chances of playing on Sunday in doubt.

Paul Pogba is also expected to miss out on Sunday as the Frenchman is still recovering from the ankle injury he underwent earlier this month. Scott McTominay (knee), Marcos Rojo (other) and Luke Shaw (thigh) are also out of the game.

If their hosts’ recent form wasn’t enough to stack the odds against them, the recent form of the Red devils in this particular fixture further dims any hopes they might have of earning all three points on Sunday.

United have won one of the last nine meetings with Klopp’s side coming into this fixture, with Liverpool winning two and six of those games ending in draws.

The potential absence of Rashford might also be keenly felt by the Red devils against a Reds’ side that has kept a clean sheet in their last 6 league outings.

Predicted Liverpool starting XI vs Manchester United: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson; Henderson, Wijnaldum, Lallana; Salah, Firmino, Mane.

Predicted Manchester United starting XI vs Liverpool: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Maguire, Lindelof, Williams; Matic, Fred, Pereira; James, Lingard, Martial
