After proving himself as one of the best defenders in the Italian top-flight, the 29-year-old defender might be set for a move to the Premier League.
Manchester City are set to submit a new bid for Kalidou Koulibaly as Pep Guardiola’s side continue to strengthen their squad ahead of the 2020/21 campaign, reports Sky Sport Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio.
The Etihad Stadium outfit won the 2018/19 Premier League title with a point but fell behind Liverpool who comfortably clinched the 2019/20 English top-flight trophy. Part of the reason why City failed to retain the title was the poor form of their defenders and injury suffered by Aymeric Laporte.
Laporte got himself injured in the opening stages of the 19/20 campaign, leaving manager Guardiola with no choice but to field the likes of Nicolas Otamendi and Jon Stones in the heart of City’s defense. Both the centre-halves went on to make a number of errors that contributed to City losing the title.
Guardiola is aware of the shortcomings of the duo and has already addressed them with the signing of Nathan Ake from relegated Bournemouth. However, with Ake left-footed like Laporte, it is believed that the City boss will try to sign Koulibaly to field him in City’s defense next season.
Chelsea midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko has reached an agreement with AC Milan that will see him play for the San Siro outfit for the second time in three seasons.
Gianluca Di Marzio further reports that Frank Lampard’s side have reached an agreement with Milan that will see Bakayoko spend the next season on loan with the Italian outfit.
Also included in the deal the option exercising which Stefano Poli’s side can sign the Frenchman permanently for €30m next summer.
Milan are currently in the midst of overhauling their midfield, with the Rossoneri expected to confirm the signature of highly-rated 20-year-old midfielder Sandro Tonali from Brescia in the coming weeks.
The Blues have signed the former Bayer Leverkusen midfielder on a five-year contract in a transfer fee worth about £71m excluding add-ons.
Frank Lampard might field Kai Havertz out wide on the left of Chelsea’s front three next season as the Chelsea boss tries to make the most of the wealth of attacking talent the club has at its disposal.
That would obviously mean that the former Derby County manager would have to bench at least two of Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech and Calum Hudson-Odoi.
Playing the 21-year-old as close to the opposition’s goal as possible seems a no-brainer once one considers that he enjoyed a 20.3% shot conversion rate last season in Bundesliga.
However, if benching Pulisic and Ziyech isn’t an option Lampard wants to consider, then the Chelsea manager might end up fielding Havertz on the left side of the Blues’ midfield, with the likes of Pulisic, Werner and Ziyech playing as a front-three.
